Anyone done a masters in Human Computer Interaction (HCI)? If so, what do you do now and would you have rather done an MBA?

My roommate did, and now she’s a product designer for a driverless car company. She used to work in banking. She liked it a lot, she also knew that MBA wasn’t for her.

I have not but considering it vs an MBA. Common exits are UX Design or Research, Product Designer, or Product Manager. There’s a couple of MBA programs that blend some HCI practice into the curriculum. One I can think of off the bat is Northwestern’s MMM program, though it’s definitely not as programming intensive as CMU or Georgia Tech’s HCI programs.

Atleast one school I know offered it as an MBA specialization too

Rutgers MBA. Specialization in UXD. Similar to HCI I believe?

1yr of work experience at MBB -- prior experience was in non-profit / community development. What exits could allow me to stay in the private sector that aren't consulting? I think exiting to Tech or a bank is unlikely with no prior experience; I want to eventually return to non profit work, but still want to spend the next few years in the private sector (tbh, just for the experience and so my MBA didn't go to waste). Any ideas?

What do MBA grads do at tech firms? The data on any B-School's website says that consulting pays more than tech to MBA grads, however, going by the threads on this app, it seems as if tech pays more. Why does everyone put Tech / FAANG on such a pedestal, claiming it’s better than MBB. Sure, the comp and WLB may be better, but you won’t be doing as meaningful and impactful work e.g. Govt Covid response, Gates foundation projects, industry defining projects in the space of a few months etc

The pressure at work has increasingly led to a strain on my mental health. I have allowed myself one too many times to prioritize the needs of others (clients, PPMDs, etc.) before my own and the price is showing in my inability to highly perform like once before. I’m at the point of not caring about anything any longer, even if that means risking my job. I’m not sure the reason I’m posting this—perhaps I’m seeking guidance or maybe I just needed to vent. Do NOT claim you are "colorblind" in the workplace. 1. DE&I knowledge is now a core leadership competency. Colorblind claims will earn you the reputation of being DEI-ignorant at best & racist at worst. 2. Colorblindness within the context of workplace diversity is an obvious lie. You do NOT want to be painted as an intellectually dishonest leader. 3. Colorblind claims signal that you lack the leadership skills & vocabulary to have key conversations.
