I did the weekend MBA while not living in Chicago and traveling to a 3rd city for work - so basically a triangle trip every week for 3 years. Loved the education, but part timers are treated like 2nd class citizens when it comes to on campus recruiting and it’s very difficult to switch jobs. The part timers that were the most successful lived in Chicago and were able to do internships (sometimes unpaid).

D1 I feel like there’s a couple pieces of context missing here - 1. A majority of FT MBA students get their job through a summer internship, which PT students can’t do, and 2. FT programs are much more difficult to get in to. PT students are more of a mixed bag in terms of talent level (even though I met great people and have friends doing PT programs!)

PT exit to most consulting firms and major employers is fully possible at Booth and Kellogg. I had offers from MBB and one FAANG tech company. I also had many interview opportunities. None of the employers in the full time recruiting process care what program you are in. The disadvantage is there’s no on campus internship recruiting process for those PT. For those trying major career changes, you have to hustle to find that on your own. That can be an uphill battle. But if you are in management consulting and trying to jump to strategy consulting or corporate leadership program, it’s very doable. The toughest question you have to ask yourself is whether you are up for 40 hours of classes, homework, interview prep, and socializing to build a network above a 60 hour a week job. If I could go back in time, I’d probably have done the full time program because you just have more time to enjoy the social aspect. But I am saying that without ever having $2K a month student loan payment.

Be aware that MBA is as much about the network and job outcome as the education, if not more so. You can barely pass your classes for the same outcome as an A student (not that I recommend slacking). GPA is not generally shared.

As a former part time MBA student, I actively discourage you from pursuing a PT MBA. While the Ed is just fine, the exit ops are best via internship and the social and club environment are much more robust FT. Your experience, despite cost, will be significantly better FT.

I did the weekend program at Booth while living in Chicago. It is honestly what you make it to be. I was not looking to switch jobs or careers, as I was already at 160, when I started there. Coming from a tech background, it helped me a lot to broaden my thinking and differentiated me in my firm (Deloitte). While it was stressful at times due to very high course workload, I enjoyed every minute of it.

Not much, maybe 70k of stocks and 401k saved. I think your point is valid about expenses. I'm going to put in a raise request as I'm moving cities and if it gets turned down I'll hop before the program starts, you're right. At the same time I'm not sure how much I could ask for at a new company with my less YoE . Still, anythings better than here lol. Thanks for the clarity .

Following this as I’m interested in the Booth PT MBA and looking to move to Chicago

Thanks all. I'm going to move to Chicago soon for evening classes. Curious - it looks like employment statistics are very close between Pt and ft. Ofc, experience will differ overall. But is it really difficult to go from acn to another consulting company post college? I'm looking to stay In consulting. Ideally 130k salary post Mba .

Ah, well. If you’ve already been accepted to the PT program, then that’s settled regardless. Assuming you have US work authorization and may be interested in staying at ACN, DM me your EID. I can try and make sure you get on the list of Boothies at ACN if I’m still here this fall.

I only applied and was accepted to one deferred MBA program (Darden) my senior year. It comes with a $30k scholarship, but at this point I only find an MBA to be worth it if it’s mostly covered. I have a 710 gmat that’s good for a couple more years, is it worth retaking to see if I could be eligible for more scholarships? At that point, should I just apply to more schools if I retake?
