Majority sober here! I’ve found that people are super respectful/generally impressed when they ask “why are you not drinking?” and you respond “I just don’t drink that much” or whatever you want to say. But I’ve honestly only ever been asked a handful of times in my twenties (I’m 29). I order a soda, a mock tail, or a low % beer or just one glass of wine to sip when out and no one really says anything. I also found that it helped when dating to weed out men who were obsessed with excessive drinking and partying since that’s just not my preferred lifestyle.

Not completely sober but before the pandemic hit, I used to drink everyday almost and for various silly reasons like 1. De-Stress 2. It’s the weekend and a family get together 3. Flight back home is delayed 4. Meeting work folks for dinner 5. Dates and to showcase “chill”. I didn’t cut it out completely but I programmed myself to make me say no to drinks or just pick up one with light % and add lots of water (within drink or on side) so that I’m not done with the drink and having to pee too much kinda made me think less about grabbing another drink 😂

Very similar to me but my over all goal is to maintain hydration. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I would wake up feeling so dried out and then thought, why don’t I just drink spritzs with soda water instead of bubbles. I probably only drink once a month nowadays and feel so much better.

I think in your 20’s it’s a bit harder but it definitely gets easier with time. I just tell people the truth when they ask why I don’t drink that much - I like my sleep! And I NEVER sleep well when I drink. And beer makes me feel bloated and gross. Most people are definitely understanding of that. I will occasionally drink a truly, cider, or wine though. But drinking after 8 PM is a hard no for this 28 year old grandma 😴

I cut it out the minute I left college cause I had gone through some traumatic stuff back then and the alcohol made it worse honestly. It allowed me the space to heal in the right mindset and focus my energy. When I was in spaces that alcohol was around, there’s an unspoken judgement that people who drink feel when they are around someone sober that they either feel guilty to be putting a temptation around me or judgement being a drinker so personally to combat that I would partake by being the one to bring alcohol to the pregame (example, I was the queen of Jell-O shots) and I kept a couple nonalcoholic ones for myself - I personally don’t see myself drinking ever again but if I did - I enjoyed my break from it and shade a new light on life for me - I found new ways to spend my time (but that may partly to my healing and finding myself)

Add in: I am on my 3rd year or not drinking!

Yes!! I just turned 25 and I’m just so over drinking - it’s honestly impacted the way I see a lot of my friendships too because so much of young professional/post grad culture is still drinking and going out etc and I’m just over it. I’ve been going to dinners with friends more and will either drink sparkling water in a wine glass with lime (lol) or sometimes I’ll get a glass of wine or something but I drive to dinner so it will help when people pressure you bc you just say “oh I drove” but yeah I hate the way I feel when I am hungover and would rather just not but I have realized that when you tell people you don’t drink, their reaction to you is mostly a projection of how they feel themselves being like “what why!!” Bc it really doesn’t matter other people if you drink or not but it makes them feel better about themselves if you’re getting drunk with you. I would start by sipping on tonic and lime or something like that at parties if you still want to do the social stuff minus the drinking

I quit drinking in my early 30s and it is the best decision I ever made. I am around 1 1/2 years sober now. I had gotten into a cycle of trying to cut back but still sometimes going too far when out with friends and decided to quit completely for a while. I’ve never looked back since! I sleep great, feel great, lost weight, and I have so much time and energy for things I love more than alcohol. I really like a few brands of non-alcoholic beer and wine and drink them with my husband and at bars and parties with friends.

Gruvi Prosecco and bubbly rose (order online), Athletic beer (absolute best and I order online or get it at a craft beer shop near me), Untitled Art NA beer, Lagunita IPNA, Clausthaler Grapefruit NA, and I think the St. Regis sparking wine is the best champs replacement! Bars around me carry Heineken 0.0, Brooklyn Special Effects, and the Coors NA beer, all of which are good. Heineken 0.0 is the best widely available one (they carry it at the grocery store in Atlanta). Total wine has quite a lot of options but is further from me.

I rarely drink—usually only socially and I keep it to one to two drinks a night. I started to drink less because my boyfriend doesn’t drink and I just started seeing the benefits of it. No hangovers, no extra calories, better sleep, but most importantly less anxiety.

I just found out I’m pregnant this morning. I have an offer for an in-house job which I’m thinking about to accept but they only provide 10 weeks maternity leave. My current firm offers 18 weeks. Should I stay for the maternity leave? I’m doing great in my current firm and received positive feedback in the performance review last week. But I know I’m going to move in-house eventually so I’m worried if I miss this opportunity it may not be easy for me to land another job.

A lot of senior leaders in my team have 1 so I’m really not sure at this point. The opportunity costs are high, but I’m well aware of the long term benefits. If we have good, free healthcare through spouse’s job (military), is it still worth it to pay for a high deductible plan through my job to get the benefit of an HSA? For context, we are a family of three. The cost of the health care plan just for myself would be $20/paycheck every two weeks (or about $520/year). Cost to add husband or child to the plan is over $200/paycheck (so I know that’s not an option). My thought is it’s not worth it to pay for the plan, but is there another pt of view?

Just got notified by the client that a bunch of people are going to be on vacation over the next few weeks. Completely understandable, but from a billing perspective that kind of sucks. In a pre-covid world you were at the client site and could always bill your time no matter who took vacation, but in this WFH environment there is no more billable “downtime.” Thoughts?

I think I’m falling for my mother in law. The feelings aren’t necessarily sexual in nature. They seem to be much deeper and emotional feelings—which I get would concern my wife more so than sexual feelings. It doesn’t help that everyone thinks my MIL finds me to be her “favorite” in addition to some other complicating nuances. Obviously, I won’t act on these feelings, but as the years go by, the closer we’re going to get since she’s around a lot and we talk quite often when we’re alone.
