Anyone else a solo in-house practitioner who works at a great company with people you like, but feels bored 70% of the time? Any tips on how to mitigate that?

Good idea. I’ve definitely fallen out of that habit and need to get back into it. Sub question, have you gotten to a point where you don’t feel fulfilled?

There are multiple people at my current biglaw firm that came back after a few years in-house because they experienced the same thing as you and weren’t fulfilled. Two of them are partners now. Several others stayed for a year or two and then pivoted to go in-house at a large established company with a large legal team.

FWIW, one of the partners has been stubborn about having a life and so spends most of his evenings offline with his family. The other partners sort of of make fun of him, but he hasn’t been forced out yet despite ostensibly making far less than the average PPP. I always suspected this was him trying to get biglaw work quality with in-house lifestyle...

Thanks for sharing. It’s a refreshing take on how things can pan out. Honestly, I feel like if I could strike that balance then I’d probably jump ship too. If the economy keeps clawing its way up, maybe the risk can be taken this year...

If someone can ever figure out how to make that model work as a whole, they’ll be able to snatch up a lot of high-quality counselors.

Look into pro Bono work or becoming more active in professional groups. ACC is a great group for in-house counsel.

Hello Everyone,

I have been working as an Associate PO for over 1 year now and would like to understand how do I better myself at the job role. Are there any specific certifications or courses that I should look forward to completing to get a better edge. Also would like to know what could the future hold from here (potential roles, jobs, etc.).

Any help would be appreciated.

I have really been working on myself to start dating and I met someone who seemed pretty cool, but within two dates dropped some massive baggage. His ex was pregnant and it turned out after it was born he found out it wasn’t his. I feel like he hasn’t really dealt with it, and he’s made some really uncomfortable comments about women that are slowly waving red flags, even though he doesn’t say anything directly about me. Would you have a conversation or run?

Thoughts on comp from those in the know? Considering an offer to join a mid sized asset manager, $30bn AUM as a funds / PE transactional associate. Im an 8th year at a v5 (10 years out of law school). Total comp = $450 (300k base, rest bonus). Hours per week likely 50-60 (working way more now). They offer great 401k matching but they don't increase the base (or even likely the bonus) every year. Is this a decent package? Should I hold out? I am the breadwinner and have 3 little ones, for context

My GC is about to retire...
She has been at the company (investment firm) for three years.
I recently joined the team as corporate counsel. I only have two years of prior firm experience in a non related area.
What should I do? I’ve been brought up to speed on all ongoing matters, but feeling like I won’t be able to handle being the sole legal counsel. Should I push for someone to be hired at GC and I stay at my level, or shoot for the GC role? Would I even be qualified?

[Legal Tech] Hi there. I practiced at a big law for a couple of years and now have been moved in-house with a focus on Legal Tech (dealing with platforms, social media - responsibilities, safe habour, Ts&Cs, e-money flow, etc) I really love the job now and finally find the path and passion. I do like working on legal tech matters a lots. Anyone on the same major? Please share your thoughts :) TIA

In-house counsel - would you prefer working at a big company specializing in a field of law, eg, privacy, IP, employment, etc, or a small company being a general counsel? Assume the small company has a higher risk of going under compared to the big company, but higher reward (via stock), and the large company pays a healthier salary.

No one has asked me specifically about pro bono stuff at my company - if I know there’s no conflict of interest, is this something I should disclose? To whom should I disclose this?
