Actually Americans drink less on average than any other developed country. I agree with you though that alcohol abuse is more of a problem.
Think if anything it's an obvious social progression from the social conditioning in college. Remember how you'd go out and party after mid terms or finals ? You associated drinking with blowing off steam after a stressful period where you needed all of your brain cells. Well.... Fast forward to the professional world of IB and you're constantly under pressure, stressed and working late so the minute you have a moment free, all you want to do is blow off steam. Only difference now is you can afford a real drink instead of bud light

Just imagine someone gets rejected 100000times after cold calling , he must need alcohol to become calm. You know why now .😼
