Anyone else afraid that New York (and cities in general) will simply never recover from this economically? I know life will never be the same but I’m afraid of how not the same. I don’t want to leave, but I’m starting to plan for the worst case 😕

We’ve had 2 world wars, NYC has seen the worst terrorist attack in the history of the world, and came back even stronger. It will take a while but it will be back.

New York has to recover. How else will Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia and New Mexico survive without NY’s federal contributions?

I don’t think we will be fine quickly or it will be easy. Recovery - It’s a long road ahead of us but if anyone can do it, it will be NY. Also, NY not recovering also means US isn’t recovering. That won’t happen.

I am more worried about every day life - increase in crimes, homeless, etc. like I said, long battle ahead of us.

Everyone said the same thing about 9/11. Our city will recover, we always do. If anything the Big Tech draw will increase at a more accelerated pace. Top talent still is attracted to big cities

Have a little (or a hell of a lot) of pride in NYC. You guys survived 9/11. The economy might be shut down and shit looks bad but there’s no giant craters or collapsed buildings or dust and smoke so think you can’t see in this particular crisis. As an American, and I’m from Texas, I’m prouder than hell of NYC. Y’all can do this. Y’all some tough mf’ers. For the things that can’t go back to normal you’ll adapt and find a way around it. All is not lost yet. Hang tight.

Focus on what you can change for the better. The rest we’ll learn as we go! ...ain’t that a song “life’s a dance you learn as you go...” 😉

NYC recovered from 9/11 and you can argue 2008 where majority of financial institutions headquartered in NYC suffered as well. We will be fine.

Took 18 months for everyone to forget about all the health issues at chipotle and taco bell. So id say about 18 months after covid is gone or there's a widely distributed vaccine people will completely forget about it

9/11 wasn’t a global economic shitfire. I’m with you OP, I’m moving to Sweden or NZ 😂

I think there’s such a strong force of people who live in NYC who will make sure the city rebuilds.

Long-term I think it will be fine. Short-term I think a lot of people will leave since it won’t be the “same” for awhile. Going to be a lot of shuttered businesses, etc. More companies will allow remote working so people will move to cheaper areas.

Nothing can keep NY down.

It has a vital energy that can’t be beat. I worry about Tier 3 cities and rural communities more.

I have no doubt Dallas will recover. It won’t be overnight and it won’t be perfect but we’ll do it.

This may be a great opportunity for Dallas to just hit the restart and start from scratch

It’s this terrible feeling of like anguish/unease in my gut, but I don’t have anything I’m worried about- it’s like my body wants to find something to worry about.
