Put in elsewhere. IMHO any company forcing employees back into the office that can't prove it is a necessity are signing their own death warrant. Employees want remote opportunities.
LC1 remote work doesn't have to be lonely, nor does it have to be from your house. Work from home was forced on many people, but it's not actually representative of how remote work has to be done.
I've got at least 2 co-working spaces a short walk away. Once COVID restrictions are lifted here, I fully plan on using at least one of them a couple of times a week. It's a good place to make new, local, friends.
Pre-covid I was working from the library half the time for my main job and my secondary job (where I lead a distributed remote team with people in Brazil, Florida, Ontario and Quebec).
Hybrid can be ok, so long as it's "remote first" (meaning, meetings are done via zoom for everyone, including people at the office) and the people who choose remote work aren't overlooked for promotions etc because of their lack of physical presence. Still, I have zero faith my main employer will be able to do hybrid properly. It's why I've got job interviews lined up with all remote companies.

Apply for roles that specify "fully remote" and/or "work from anywhere." If your goal is to stay remote, and your employer keeps trying to get you back into the office, you'll never have peace.
It'd be a hassle to apply elsewhere, but not so much of one that I wouldn't do it to keep working from my home office.

Just switch companies. Too easy to find another job right now. No one has time to argue over being forced back to 2018.
Any chance you can discuss hybrid with your manager? I’m sure there are good reasons for both being in office and being home, as I’ve found in my role. Having an honest conversation is a better place to start than being passive aggressive.
Fair point. I've really gotten used to and kind of enjoy the distance of remote work, honestly. Pre-covid people were always popping into my office and keeping me from getting stuff done. I like the control of being ostensibly "afk" if it means I can stay on task and get my work done quicker.
We are a relatively small company but had two main locations. We were already working hybrid pre-pandemic. However, I started noticing that team members kept mentioning that they enjoyed working fully remote. It was brought up to leadership, and we ended up surveying the whole team and now we are fully remote. I encourage you to talk to your peers and your manager. Maybe even see if it’s something up for discussion with leadership. Especially, if a large majority of employees want to continue working remotely, forcing people to go back without even the option of hybrid work could be a blow to company culture and team morale.
Wow, thank you for this. I hadn't considered that so many others might be feeling the same way. I don't have a union - I wonder whether I could do something similar safely on my own. Or should I go through HR or something? I mean, if I get canned at least it was trying to create the work environment that would keep me here.
Where you at? What comapny?
Prefer not to say as we're a bit of a smaller company.
Yep. We have been back to office. And if we weren't vacinnated we just had to wear a mask but still come back.
MU1 "no one will check or care" is such a funny thing to admit to me. This feels like ALL we've been told to care about for a year...and now here we are.
Yes, but it'll be a one-month trial to see if we're going to continue this way or conclude that hybrid is better especially when it comes to costs and productivity.
