Anyone else dealing with phone addiction? My mental health is in the toilet rn and I can’t stop using social media/scrolling endlessly/refreshing my work email every few minutes, and it’s really affecting my life. Any tips on how to disconnect while working in biglaw? I’m afraid that if I try to do a tech/phone cleanse I won’t be able to keep up with work demands especially since I’m expected to respond to emails ASAP. Thanks!

Have the same problem, thinking it was ADD. Also a symptom of depression, per my therapist. Hated hearing that as I’m very concerned about the stigma of being diagnosed with depression in this industry - practicing in a smaller midwestern bar in a specialized field, so my professional network is tiny and I’m convinced that diagnosis would end up known.

I put my phone across the room from me (close enough to hear it ring but far enough to create just a small barrier to impulsive use) and deleted IG. Also, I try not to check my phone first thing in the AM for social media and news stuff. It triggers your dopamine apparently and then you’re more likely to screw around on it thought out the day. Like if you start the morning drinking you’re going to drink all day.

A3 this is really interesting. I’m going to try this!

This may not be a phone addiction, but rather a form of procrastinating. I've got ADD and I do this sometimes. I'd seek assistance from a mental health professional, perhaps counseling if you don't know where to start. I think your framework of an addiction is perhaps a simplification but a professional can help you figure it out.

I’ve been an LPN for 8 years, predominately in pediatrics, both in patient and home healthcare. I’ve worked in medical offices for 10+ years before that. I was looking to explore options outside of bedside nursing/direct patient care, do I have many options? I saw another similar post but the OP is an RN, and I didn’t know how much that information would apply to me as an LPN.

I left my firm a week ago. My main reason was the culture (not taking D&I seriously, not a culture of appreciation, lacking vision) but a close second was WLB. I’m taking 2 months off before my next job. They seem more in line with my values. And WLB could be a bit better but not substantially bc it is still PA! I’m hoping for the best but.. just in case.. Cabin you tell me about their experience w contract work? Who do you go through? Can you do it only when you want? Is it hard to find?

I'm an RN of 7 years, experience as a coordinator, on committees and do all the things. But now I just don't want to go to work anymore. I have anxiety every morning over nothing, just having to go perform my job. I could do my job in my sleep so I'm just lost and confused. My body is clearly sending me messages to leave. But where do I go? I think I need to step out of patient care.

Any WFM nurses out there? Better work-life balance??

Has anyone price compared the cost of braces vs invisalign with insurance? My insurance company is telling me it’d be the same cost for both as the negotiated rate for both are the same. In other words the dental rate for invisalign is $7K while the rate insurance allows them to charge is $5k (I’m guessing the dental rate for braces is higher than $5K and therefore would still get me down to $5K). This seems odd so I’m wondering if anyone has first hand experience.

Anyone in the boston area looking for a good WLB tax senior job? My last firm is hiring. No minimum billable hours needed. Client facing tax role. Great bonus structure (my last payout was 20% of my annual salary and I was there for less than one year). Very competitive salary. I won't have left if not for going to a big 4. Great team. I love my team when I worked there and they were like family to me. They encouraged me to be brave and pursue big 4 if that's better for me in the long run.

People say to always negotiate but what do you do if you’re offered a higher number than expectating and is also the number you were going to try to negotiate? I.e. you think they’ll offer $1 so your plan is to ask for $4 and they end up offering $4. Do you still negotiate/go higher?

Or do I continue to wait? I want to show interest but not come off too aggressive. Many TIA!
