Yes, all the time. Recently jumped ship to here 5 months ago and now thinking about doing that again bc I know I’m underpaid and that I want something more prestigious. On days when I feel particularly bummed, I’ll go through my entire LinkedIn and see where people I know from college/high school ended up and look up their salaries on LI Salary to feel good about myself or I’ll just feel more inferior.

Why do people always compare up and forget to look down? I emigrated from a third world country when I was 7. All of my classmates from back then are working in farms or are industrial laborers. Be grateful of what you have. If you keep looking up you will be guaranteed to find someone doing better. While you're busy fantasizing about that shiny linkedin profile that you want to be, someone else is probably doing the same with yours. Learn to accept what you have or you will never be happy no matter how successful you become.

Yes. Dare I say it, fear of "falling behind" is what keeps me going...

Yeah D1 - I did a PhD in a different field and then started consulting as an associate - didn’t realise that was the same level as 20 year old grads...

Do you think doing a phd in relevant field would be of massive help to your career though, comparing to the same amount of years working?

Yeah, served in the military for 4 years before going back to school and getting a degree. The feeling of “I’m 4 yrs behind, I should be at x level by now at my age” comes and goes every so often.

Yep. A bunch of friends going to Ivy League grad schools (even though they aren’t in consulting, just feel like I’m not doing anything amazing with my own life). I also see my friends at other firms who accepted those offers after rejecting the one from my firm & making more. So yes, I do feel this a lot.

Thanks all for validating my late night ruminations!

Is there any other avenue to bring over those workers or is he screwed?
