I’ve seen SO many people burn out in lit based not so much on the actual hours but more so based on the adversarial nature of the job. I have largely avoided that by seeing everything as part of the game. You gotta learn not to take stuff personally. Everyone is doing their job and creating fire drills is an unfortunate part of said game. Obviously there are layers to this, and some opposing counsels are such d-heads that getting annoyed is just gonna happen. But if you can maintain a zen and, better yet, learn to enjoy the game, I think you’ll be much happier. Once you get there, you might even learn to like the chess-like nature of litigating.
today I dealt with an Advocate who was so full of herself... I won't be using her as Counsel for my client's case, she said arrogant things like:
1) I am too senior to give a simple opinion and won't even give you case law, and tell you straight your client has no case in 4 pages only. - While she can get paid a decent amount for an opinion.
2) I will take your money offer but won't pay much attention to the opinion, take it or leave it, or go ask for junior Counsel, I do not mingle with Junior Counsel, as I am senior so won't be able to give you their contacts.
3) I have a lot of work from big companies, it is not like I am out begging for and being desperate for work or anything.
It has been a long while since I have been this disgusted by Advocates, with that much ego, I wonder how she retains clients if none of her clients are good enough for her.

Nothing makes me hope karma is a thing like the gamesmanship of opposing counsel.
Can we talk about the epidemic of people sending letters at 4 PM on Friday? I can’t tell if that’s people trying to get things wrapped up for the week or people just being dicks.
@Att1 & author associate ... reminds me of when OC is demanding answers from your client on settlement negotiations where your client is taking his sweet time to give you further instructions...even too lazy to read concept letters properly and just telling you to send it like it is...without providing missing info🤦♀️
Take up boxing. Cant punch people in real life anymore but it’s good to take out the frustration and burn some stress in a controlled environment
I keep telling people that I’m society’s janitor. I’m basically called in to clean up everyone’s shit. Every case I’ve ever worked on is the result of someone being stupid, greedy, or (often) both. This job has turned me into a misanthrope.
I feel this. Some days, I’m easily equipped to handle the nastiness. Others, I want to run away. It’s definitely draining, but also rewarding I suppose. High highs and low lows too. Not an easy gig overall...
Go in-house. Game changer.
I’ll also add that after you get your bearings and kind of know the lay of the land, you get less OH CRAP moments. You know the kind where your stomach twists into knots and you break out in a cold sweat because you forgot to check the local rules or whatever...
“Forgot to check the local rules” — sounds like PA. If so, don’t forget the prothy’s unofficial, unwritten rules, too!
