How about kids are qualifying based on bad parenting. We are seeing way too many students qualified for special education that just need real parents.

I don’t understand the coteacher concept. I have sped students every year. Most have “learned helplessness” by the time they get to 5th grade. I feel we are doing them a disservice by having them in gen ed. classes most of the day, every day. They don’t receive the help they need.
Agree 👍 I guess it's about money

The coteaching concept works REALLY well at the secondary level (ie. when students switch classes/teachers) when done correctly. I’ve cotaught as the regular education teacher for more than 20 years. If the special education teacher is treated as a second teacher rather than an aide, that helps. We share teaching, she accommodates the assessments for the IEP students & traditionally (not now remotely) gives the assessments in another room for a smaller testing environment. She grades the assessments for her kids, has access to the gradebook, & inputs their scores. The biggest benefits: students get a regular curriculum (modified as little as possible) & more importantly see the correct behavior of a regular class. I’m so sorry some of you that are officially coteaching aren’t able to have that experience.
I’ve always felt that way I’m Gen Ed abd I’ve always had tremendous sympathy for my special Ed partners. Even though we us a coteacing modem I do most of the teaching as they are usually teaching multiple subjects plus I rarely teach with the sane Coteacher more than a year in a row
Same happens in my district with co teachers. If it is working, why change the model.
YES!!! I feel so sorry for SP.ED. Teachers.... this is a hard time for you guys! Us GenEdders really appreciate you though!
This maybe a bit extreme but you can ask him to create a log of students he’s supported so he’s being equitable and providing students their service minutes. I would ask in an email and cc admin.
Yes! My students are there M,T, Th, F and virtual on W. They won’t wear masks and we can’t social distance. At what point does everyone’s health override their disabilities? I don’t mean to sound harsh, but come on! SPED has been given no barriers to use on student desks, no PPE, and little to no support by admin. It’s pretty much business as usual in these classrooms and we are expected to suck it up and take a chance of getting the virus 😐

We just went hybrid, if a kid won’t wear a mask we are to send the kid to the principal, if it’s still a problem, that kid is now virtual... problem solved. My district is not messing around.
Everyday, more and more. It’s funny though, it’s not by the districts. It’s by our own County Office of Education. They have decided to help only 1 program and have basically done everything to handicap and hurt everyone else to help that program.
