Anyone else feel like the hardest part of b4 first year is resisting the urge to quit because of awful project you had no control over? I know there’s opportunities later, just hard to be patient

Totally. That first project is a real doozy. Had a director at PwC who THOROUGHLY tried to lock me down on my first project for the better part of a year, had to really lay on the heat to get off that project. The entire time I was considering extreme move to another firm.

Hate to burst your bubble but your career will be filled of doing projects/things you don’t like. Things always change so at least we can look forward to the next thing

That’s a defeatist attitude, craft the career you want to see.

OP that’s me right now and I get that you don’t control the projects you get but the hardest part imo is staying motivated. My first year motivation is completely gone now. I used to hustle and ok with working late nights and weekends. But now I’m just not seeing the point or value in working so hard. I’m an mba hire if that’s makes a difference

Agree

Typing this as I’m about to start working on a Sunday to catch up on everything. I used to see the partner track as lucrative but there are so many organization bureaucracies within the firm that I don’t think it’s a position that I strive for anymore. At this point I just want to hit a certain point and exit without screwing over teammates in the process
