I agree with OP... not much out there in terms of options. It may be easier to go to from one consulting firm to another, but nothing else.

like

I think we're looked at more favorably than a lot of people. I get unsolicited messages from recruiters all the time. Hang in there and best of luck.

like

Depends what you do and how transferable the skills are

like

Yeah I've found consulting not to be a gateway drug to the land and milk and honey. But a gateway drug to more consulting.

like

My biggest problem is I've become pretty niche. It's hard to find anything in my niche locally, so I'm stuck in consulting. I could go do something outside of my niche locally, but would take a pay cut.

like

That scares me because I can't even get past first rounds. I am so fucked. I hate consulting so much. I think PwC is a fantastic company but just so over it.

like

Try product management

like

@Op sorry but I don't really think 3 years post college makes you an "experienced professional"

like

Wouldn't product management be a paycit as well?

like

Same story here OP. Made it just far enough in a lot interviews but was unable to close due to lack of a technical skill or deep subject matter expertise. Maybe MBA is the best way forward

like

OP I am experiencing this exact issue too. Anyone that denies it's an issue probably hasn't tried to pursue other opportunities yet. Let me know if you have any advice.

like

Why does everyone seem to think that networking is the answer? Just knowing people doesn't help you succeed in the interview.

like

What did you do before consulting?

So a bit of background, I went into consulting straight outta college and I've been doing it for 3 years. But it seems like every job I want wants some sort of expertise in something along with my consulting experience (CPG, mobile, analytics) and I just don't have that. I feel like all I really am is an experienced professional who knows how to get shit done, really well (excellent communication, relationship building, cross-team collaboration). I don't think it's true but I actually feel so useless sometimes.

I'm Deloitte S&O post MBA....I get a ridiculous number of head hunters reaching out to me, but I've built up expertise (pre-deal M&A) in an area.

Yikes OP - sounds like it wasn't a good match. What group are you in?

OP, I am post mba and feel this way. We are out in the same silos as you guys. I hate how pwc slices and dices us. That said, you have nothing to worry about as you are super young. Take it from someone who has seen people with really random backgrounds (like analyst at a random hardware company, or a rural local govt assistant) land AMAZING jobs after b school because they networked their butts off at their target companies. You might be spreading your resume too thin instead of showing a targeted interest in select companies. Make a list of 5 target companies and proceed from there. Everything in life is about who you know-- start reaching out to school alums, relatives, friends, anyone to get you in the door to do "coffee chats." You will do great!

I don't really want to go to grad school. I don't think I should have to go to grad school to be able to switch jobs. @PwC5 perhaps you're misunderstanding me, I merely mean "experienced professional" in terms of getting the intangibles done well - communication, analysis, leading meetings, etc - there's just no substance I have in any specific industry or competency.

@strategy1 also, I don't think I'm spreading my resume too thin. I have picked a few specific companies I'm interested, and despite having some sort of connection there, I can't get past first round or even get an interview.
