The PwC problem is that chrome is a massive memory hog. Having to keep multiple instances of it open to manage calendar and email all day makes it impossible to also have Aura, Notes, and Office running at the same time on these machines.
So it's not just me, ya I feel like we can cut a good fraction of our work hours if our computers were actually able to handle all the firm required programs. Sometimes it's the PC that's temporarily the bottleneck and not us having documentation writer's block or waiting on the client.
And could it kill them to give us a laptop with a 10 key on the keyboard? I mean we are accountants...
I had to turn auto replicate off because my computer runs so slow when it replicates databases
Running any formula that does any kind of sorting or vlookup takes forever unless you close every other program on the computer.
Citrix and the cloud here. It doesn't make a difference to me what my laptop does 😊
Change your power setting to high performance. Runs decent then. I've got one of the first X1 Carbons (Oct 2013). Removing the Aero visual effects helps too. Can't wait for the new ones though.
It's ridiculous that they won't provide us with laptops with the necessary specs considering how integral of a part of our job they are and the amount of time we spend on them
Yes
Wth ? PwC has chromebooks ? Seems underwhelming.
DTT 1 Not chromebooks, don't even know what that is ... But it's true once you run a few necessary programs every process becomes a drag
At Deloitte 1, we use Chrome for our primary browsers, and Google for mail and calendar. We don't use Chromebooks.
@Senior Associate 1 Are you with PwC? Just wondering if PwC will permit me to setup cloud computing services, as it's still too slow even with high performance
@OP-I'm not, I'm with a larger local firm. I can't believe you guys have local applications installed! Everything at my firm is virtualized through Citrix. You wouldn't even notice they weren't running locally....unless you lose internet connectivity.
Was grateful to get a computer, but its honestly trash
