Anyone else feeling overwhelmed, working 12+ hours a day and still not getting it all done? I also feel so alone working from home, I wish so much that we were in classrooms. Just feeling it, needed to vent.

I’m in the classroom, and feeling the same way...between situating my virtual learners’ assignments and grades, my by-mail learners’ assignments and grades, and my in-person learners’ assignments and grades, AND parenting my own children at home (homework, suppers, chores, etc.)...there are NOT enough hours in the day! I’ve been putting my kids to bed, heading back to the school late at night to work on everything that needs to be done, and getting home in time to catch a couple to a few hours of sleep before starting all over again the next day! It’s not sustainable, and for the pay I bring home ($1900 per month after insurance and other items are deducted), I don’t know that it’s worth all the hours I’m putting in! I feel your pain, for sure. “This, too, shall pass.” That’s what I keep telling myself.

I’ve been spending 12+ hours away from my family since starting F2F learning...when working with students in school there is never enough time to set up meetings or prepare for the next day—I’m either teaching, directing paras on what to do, or cleaning tables/desks/supplies. Our school had also given parents the option of virtual learning, so some of our students families have chosen that which means coordinating meetings and then the instruction they need from us...it’s a lot and overwhelming, BUT we’ll get through it.

Twelve hour days? Heck, I’ll do that when they pay me six figures. That ain’t happening anytime soon. My school email and calls go off at 4:30 pm. I need a little downtime before doing nightly chores.

I am teaching remotely this full year, and I am going to set myself a schedule and prioritize what needs to be done. Stay online an hour or 2 late Fridays to be prepped for the week so I don't have to stay late then. Setting a time for office hours so I don't reply to emails late at night. I totally understand, though.

like

Special Educator Elementary I work 10 hour days 7:30 -5:30 and then start. again at 8:00- 12:00 pm. or later. I thought it would slow and I would be more ready with solutions but not so. Trying to find a silver lining.

Yes, I have my first IEP meeting on Monday and because I’m doing distance learning. Testing is not easy. I’m teaching remotely and doing my best to make my assignments accessible to those students who still don’t have a school iPad. I am doing my best not to get overwhelmed and stressed out since that will impact the way I teach. I have been doing phone calls to trouble shoot tech problems with some of my parents in an effort to get my students in the classroom. It’s been crazy these past 4 weeks.

You’ve got it your students are blessed to have you!! You are persevering to meet their needs.

Thankful for a small number of cases, but have 5 IEPs to pull out of my...due to Covid-19 shutdown. Really nervous about being in compliance for on-line learning.

We have PD and open house this week and we get all students who chose face-to-face on the 31st. The 7-12 teachers don't have a schedule yet and some of us don't know what we are teaching. We still aren't completely comfortable with everything in our district's reopening plans. The stress and anxiety is overwhelming at times. I still don't know how I will effectively instruct the varying levels of my students with multiple disabilities. They are so used to paper-pencil, hands-on learning.

I am in both the classroom and doing digital lessons and Meets with my Sped students. It's not any better when you are doing both. I stay at work late and come home and work. Then, I still don't have it all done. Sorry for the pessimism!! The struggle is real, any way you look at it.

I had a panic attack at midnight, so I get it. I've been working til 7-8 most nights and then I found out yesterday that I'm getting 5+ hours of work added to my load next week that's not even sped related and it just pushed me over the edge into a complete breakdown. 😞 so not really an encouragement but you're not alone!

I feel you. I spent about 4 hours crying yesterday. I'm exhausted and somehow still behind on everything! Somethings got to give, I cant sustain this much longer

Ahhhhhh Just a bit overwhelmed! I understand. This is a tough time.

I’m all virtual and going crazy. Don’t know how you guys do both! How are you handling the safety aspect with sped in person. My students wouldn’t wear masks and would pull mine off. I have young students with severe autism.

Yes! So much this! I found an article that talked about a pomadoro (spelling?) You set a 25 minute timer and don't let anything interrupt you aka - not answering emails or texts. Then take a five minute break. Do that 4 times and then take a 30 minute break I tried it and felt much more productive and only worked 6 instead of 12 hours on Sunday. 🤦👍🏻🤣🤞🏻

Did you hear yourself say on SUNDAY? If only we got paid for overtime!

More than likely more waivers for school districts will be granted and students will begin returning to the site. A local district has recently been granted a waiver, so I expect others will follow. Bringing back the most needy students first and in a hybrid model that will give a partial normal experience. With layers of distancing and mask rules, and cleaning protocols, what else can be expected? Many across the country have already returned.

Right. And my comment to my APEIS was so special Ed gets to be the guinea pigs. Sounds about right. Send our most vulnerable population back first. Smh smh

Nice to hear other views. I'm setting a schedule and prioritizing. Things should smooth out soon and I'll make sure I stop at a reasonable hour.

Has anyone found anything that does both well? Looking especially for a tool that teachers can get behind and that students enjoy/find easy to use. What do you love? What do you hate? This would be targeted to grades 1-6 primarily, but it needs a high ceiling.

Our school uses Foss Kits for Science and I was told when students return, we will need to sanitize all items before and after each use. This doesn’t seem possible in a middle school setting where each period has a 4 minute break and 25 students in each period. What do you do in your classroom to minimize the amount of work needed to clean and sanitize items. I don’t want to short change the students’ hands-on experiences.
