Anyone else feels like there's still so much to learn in data science? Just went to a Meetup where I had no idea what half the people were talking about. Eg, Poincare embeddings, pointer networks 😵

Anyone work at Canadian Tire?

I have an interview with them for an associate manager role but they're saying starting salary is 75K which is fairly low for a role that requires 5+ years of experience and reports directly to the AVP, any idea what I could potentially negotiate to? Also what's the hybrid work policy at CTC and any idea on potential changes to it?

Curious about your thoughts. When you were new, did you rush to put produced work in your book? Or did you wait until you got pieces that spoke to the kind of work you really want to do? I’m a jr and have a commercial that’s due for release at the end of the month. But it’s very straightforward. Nothing really conceptual. I also have a lame radio spot in my book from when I was intern. Was best thing I got from that place. Just wanted to show I’ve worked on produced stuff.

Did I step on someone’s toes /: ? I sent a report out to the group before my team reviewed it, so my manager asked me to read the report and see if there were any errors. I found one and asked this person to update it and send an updated copy. I gave her a heads up that I’d be replying to her with it via email but wanted to give her the chance to fix it. she said she hoped no one would notice. My boss already knew about the error at this point so I couldn’t not send it.

So engineers can now automate the writing of basic code, and potentially more complex tasks, by using GPT-3.

For those who are technical: If machines can write code, how are you going to upskill? And what are the best ways make yourself indispensable?

I am not embracing the notion that you shouldn't have to code to do data science. However, I think coding may soon be much less of a competitive advantage.
