Anyone else freaking out about Delta? My baby is 6 months and starts daycare on Monday. I feel like I’m sending my kid into harms way (I can’t afford a nanny).

OP- you are my spirit animal. My 6.5 mo. old starts daycare Monday as well. He’s literally never been away from us and is now going to be away for 9 hours during this Delta thing. We also live(d) like hermits for most of the pandemic - so it’s scary. It helps knowing about the daycare’s covid protocols and that our zip code is 100% vaxxed (adults, of course). We are all doing the best we can and will get through this. Also, my baby, husband, and I all had covid when he was ~2 months old - no idea where we picked it up as we never went into any stores or saw anyone. Frustrating, but the baby had 1 day of mild symptoms - elevated temperature (100.3), he threw up, and that was it. He was totally fine after. We’re doing the best we can and all we can do is hope for the best!

I would feel better if my zip code had a higher vaccination rate. It’s only 50% despite being in NYC. The daycare is small and everyone wears masks but still. We had friends there who said they only had one closure in January. But I’m just concerned because this variant is so much more transmissible.

My kids aren’t in daycare but I’ve been wondering how this is managed. Pre covid my oldest went to a preschool and all the kids just constantly had a cold and runny nose. Seems like it would be almost impossible to manage. We’re planning to start our oldest two back in preschool in early 2022 but I’m still a little nervous… not to mention not looking forward to all the germs coming back to our household (even the non covid germs)

Yes, it sucks. My 16 month old is in daycare (we live in South FL 😬) and Delta stats are making me so worried yet I am hesitant to pull him out. He’s only been enrolled for two months and is absolutely flourishing after being home for so long (March 2020 baby!).

I’m with you. Our youngest is also in daycare. It’s scary, especially seeing the pediatric numbers coming out of Louisiana but we have to keep in mind, statistically, our babies are still very safe.

Oof. “"Unvaccinated family members by and large are giving this disease to their children," said Finger. "This is an urgent wake-up call for those in our community who have thus far been vaccine hesitant to get the vaccine."

Yep! I feel like I stayed so positive being pregnant and raising a newborn during COVID but I am just exhausted. I will numb to make a move regarding childcare

My baby has been in daycare since January and they haven’t had one issue. I was super nervous but they keep everything so clean, I’m not even the least bit worried. The part that sucks is how cautious doctors are. She’s had three Covid tests since starting because anytime she has a runny nose, the doctor wants to rule it out. That’s the toughest part for me.

I live in North Carolina and no one walks around with cans of bleach… but there are also a lot of people who don’t wear masks anymore and won’t get vaccinated. Went to a super busy Lowe’s yesterday and saw only 2 other masked people in the whole store.

Both my kids have underlying lung issues and I did get covid earlier this year and fortunately they just had some fever / irritability / stomach issues. So I’m a bit less concerned. Our pediatric Pulminologist sees lots of 13+ having issues with covid but that the younger ones are mostly covid spreaders with much more mild symptoms.

Wanted to add some tips - I’ve noticed things like binkies and bottle nipples can be easy to mix up. Those are the things that are most likely to pass illness. Label those pieces so your daycare knows who they belong to :)

Not babies, but my kids are going to school this fall and I'm dreading it. We kept my first grader home all year last year, and my kindergartener wasn't in school yet. I don't think it's worth keeping them out of school for even more time (and the school doesn't have a remote option now), as absolute risk is still low, but I am not a happy camper at all that the kids are in even more danger with increased transmissibility and patchy rules on masks and precautions.

Yep!

My kiddos have been in daycare for the entire pandemic (with the exception of the 3 month shutdown), still not a single case of covid at daycare yet🤞🏼

I live in a village outside of a MW city. Our % likely uniquely high because of how small our population is (in my village) and our proximity to a university and the city. Ie it’s a very pro vax community and our daycare only serves our village.

My 9 month old starts tomorrow too 😬😬😬. I was feeling pretty okay with it until last week. But my thought it that I can always pull her if I need to. I do have friends whose children stayed in daycare the entire pandemic with no issues. My oldest got RSV as an infant and was hospitalized and I am having a hard time forgetting how scary that was. I guess I have no advice. Good luck mama.

100% there too! 6 months and starts daycare tomorrow. We’re in NYC in a highly vaccinated neighborhood- but still seriously worried

My babe started daycare at 6 months and it’s now almost 7 months later. No issues at all since we have been there! We are still not allowed in, as they limit access to kids and staff, but that’s fine with me!

I’ve been working 12 hours a day minimum since I was 11 years old .. so now 12 hour days feel like play for me. Also put me infront of a screen for 24 hours and I won’t move until I need to go to sleep . I have been like that since I was a kid so now it’s in my blood. I never felt I was working. I’m always curious and my mind goes 1000 miles an hour . What about you? Do you feel it’s work and CBF after 8 hours? Or you feel it’s your hood and you can’t have enough of it?

I need to know if I’ve pigeon-holed myself. I have an undergrad in music business, and got a lot of good experience then. Worked in live events for 4 years before returning to law school, intending to practice in entertainment law (specifically music).
