Anyone else get frustrated when the C- suite executives ask you to give up time on the weekend for a call to accommodate their schedule when they're making millions of dollars and your salary isn't even ten percent of what they make? I just want to say no, I can't because I'm not paid as much as you are to justify giving up my weekend.

Completely agree with you. I’ve never been in this situation before but I would just tell them that I’m not available on weekends. My backup would be to work less during the week/leave early to compensate. Years ago, I would’ve sided with the "you’re salaried so hours depend on the business" argument—I’ve since swung faaaar over to the other side.

Glad I'm not the only one. I haven't been able to say no to some of these requests because the Deputy GC has been on the calls to and I haven't wanted to fight that fight in front of my boss. But I'll just reclaim time during the week.

like

Yes happened a lot in my old job. I thought I was the only one who thought that. So many calls at 6pm on Saturday or 8pm on a Friday. Usually only because of genuine crisis (cyber attack, data breachetc) but I would think the same. Did the ceo or c suite have any idea how little I was paid and yet showed up. Part of the reason I changed jobs 😂

like

Totally agree. I try to be sensitive to asking more junior folks to work outside of business hours for this reason.

Great to hear some people at the top are cognizant of this.

You are limiting your career prospects at the company by not doing it. Whether that's worth it is up to you, but if the DGC and others do it, you likely won't move up the ladder there for refusing.

Do it. They need a reality check.
