How about paying tax and still having potholes on roads and no footpaths.
Depends on the state you live in. CA has the highest tax rate and it does feel draining to get only 50% of what you earn :/
What are the benefits that you don’t get right now which your citizen peers in similar shoes are getting?
On the contrary, I would argue that you do indeed get a lot of benefit. To name a few, very strong public infrastructure (eg. roads), clean water almost throughout the country, strong judicial and police system, pretty decent public school system etc.
Agreed that a lot of taxes go towards the the underprivileged part of the society, that’s just how taxes work and are supposed to work. But comparing vis-a-vis with our peers who are American citizens, it’s not like they get some more benefits which migrants don’t get.
No differences as far as I know. Both get equal benefits. It’s another point that US childcare benefits aren’t that good compared to rest of developed world.
Canada is much better as an immigrant ... free health care , free child benefits for kids , free medicines for kids till age 15 ...
Amazing!
To be frank I never felt that. i never thought about it. I just considered those as my expenses. I keep looking to generate passive income to increase my overall income
We made more this year. And hit the 35% bracket. And now I feel worse 😐
Mate, it's the price you pay to live in a developed nation. Having lived in Europe I'd say we pay much less taxes in the US (of course, overall tax burden is also determined by your state and zip). All things considered, you do see a lot of that money in terms of public amenities and services. I will admit that I lean more favourably on taxes after starting a family (more options to reduce your tax burden and also avail amenities). That said, property tax is something I find hard to justify especially in states like NJ, NY, CA - simply ridiculous. So I moved. Look at your options and reduce as much as you can but in higher brackets you are gonna have to pay more.
I am happy paying taxes for all the facilities we get here. Stop crying for no reason, in India also salaried person pay high taxes but they are still sacred to go Government hospitals, police stations, public schools, Government offices. Public transport is so crowded that they prefer to drive by themselves, lack of security, no pension and many more.

I don’t get depressed for the taxes. Overall, all of us earn much more and can afford way too many luxuries here than we could have in our home countries.

Yes - I understand your pain for I felt the same for many years!
OP I agree with you, feeling good just by comparing to something worse should not be the criteria to judge anything or justify an argument. People talking about how bad things are back home maybe think no gun control is lesser of an issue.
Anyway, coming to your point, I feel you. Fwiw, to look at the brighter side, you always have the option of going back (and be richer) or maybe retire/receive Healthcare in India, which most of the people here realistically don't.
Tldr - it's sad, but it's not that bad :)
Disagree to the former. Agree to the latter.
you are here out of your own free will no? Then why get depressed?
So anything you do out of your free will, cannot make you want better or more? Great logic!

What do you think you don’t get? Good parks, fresh air, good roads, transparency, reservation-free education system, good legal system, 911 support, public schools, pure water, airports- what do you want exactly?
Reservation free education system? You haven’t been exposed to it yet. All half decent colleges restrict the % of asians in every dept.
You always have the choice to move back to India if you think taxes and benefits are better there.
D3 - is it just me but when I hear the word asians in the US I always feel like Indians are excluded.. 😁
