Anyone else hate Mother’s Day? I feel like I have to explain why I don’t have kids and I absolutely love my family, but they always include me in Mother’s Day celebrations... they give me cards and gifts celebrating me as an “auntie” or a “cat mom” feels like a consolation prize or something.

I really hate being wished a happy Mother’s Day, people need to stop assuming that women over 25 are parents!!

This!!! I specifically started wearing my “dog mom” shirt/sweatshirt on Mother’s Day weekend just so I don’t have to be bothered. I mean it’s everywhere you go. Perfect strangers in the store, on the street, and in restaurants. Seriously, don’t try to eat anywhere that entire weekend. Also, let’s get rid of Ma’am.

Was wished Happy Mother's Day on Friday for being a dog mom.... super weird.

likefunny

I had no idea, though it was in the context of a group call where the person said something like, "I want to wish all the women on this call a Happy Mother's Day, whether you're a mom, grandmother, or dog mom."

I tell my family “no need to include me in this day - the point is to celebrate moms and I am not one!” I don’t need anyone pretending that having a dog or a nephew is the same as having a child.

like

I will say that I always send my aunts cards etc. Because they are a mother figure for me. If I had nieces or nephews I would be ok being included for that role.

I don’t hate it because I can spend time with my own mother, but I am not sure if the same applies for you. Also, it’s weird they get you gifts lol

I’m frustrated that I’m always expected to do everything for our LO since I’m working from home. Five days a week, I do all the drop offs and pickups. When the baby is napping, I prep all her bottles and solids to pack with for daycare. Today, on top of everything else I had to take our dog to the vet. My husband hasn’t even offered to do anything because it’s easier for me to do it.

How do you all feel about splitting vacations 50/50 in a relationship and dates 60/40? I might be old fashioned but this rubs me the wrong way. I feel like I have to work 2x as hard to be taken seriously at work as a woman and pay for all kinds of crap like hair appts, nails, makeup, outfits to be viewed positively by men. Not to mention, expensive birth control, periods, and eventually potentially having a child. 50/50 makes me feel like a friend and not that valued. Thoughts?

Looking for some perspective. I found out I was pregnant & made a deliberate decision not to reveal this news at work as I had concerns that this might negatively impact my Perf Review (unconscious bias). I informed my People Lead & HR, & specifically requested that they not share this news either. I now find out my PL has shared this information. I confronted her indicating this was not her news to share but she deflected (kept saying it would not affect PA) & inferred I was over-reacting. What would you do in my shoes?

Expecting our first in about 6-8 weeks. Both my wife and I work at places with strong parental leave policies. We are considering staggering our leaves (I’d take a couple weeks right when the baby is born, then go back to work until her leave runs out, then go out) to save $$ on child care. Would also have a bit of family help during the first 4-6 weeks as well. Any experienced dads think this is a bad idea?
