Maybe I'm too old fashioned but I find ghosting rude and demonstrate a lack of accountability and respect for the other.
Ghosting happens all the time… clients, recruiters, etc etc… It’s not right and it doesn’t feel good but I wouldn’t take it personally. They probably wanted someone with X skills or they got pushback from one key person or whatever… and THEY did the wrong thing. I didn’t have much of an opinion either way on them before your post but I have a negative one now!
MD, I am an MD in the Partnership Matters Office. I have done some checking and apparently a system (tool) change has led to the team losing track of some conversation paths. I apologize to you as this should never have happened. Please feel free to DM me and I will handle with you in person. Sorry again, it is unacceptable but it will be fixed.
AlixPartners waste people's time a lot plus the firm lacks diversity
Oh please.
Had a really terrible experience with AlixPartners. They don't like to hire from minority firms or minority groups. Diversity is a really big issue at this firm. Went through the whole process of 5 interviews, psychometric assessments /psychologist interview, Financial Modelling assessments. Had excellent conversations and after everything, HR was like " the conversations were really good but they prefer someone with direct US restructuring experience instead of foreign exp ( the whole discrimination stereotyping). Got referred by an MD severally in EI & Consulting practice and keep getting rejected. Someone with the same exp as me who is American would have been selected.
Internal recruiter or third party? Not acceptable either way.
I had a similar experience
It was actually an MD from the Partnership Matters office responsible for recruiting
Just saw your response. I think when senior people get involved in recruiting they can sometimes be looking for something and if they deem it not to be a good fit for whatever reason they screw up and don’t follow up. I’ve heard others describe this occurring at a variety of firms. I think we are busy and when involved in hiring we can screw up the process - which is why at my firm the recruiting team is so insistent on being involved in and running said process. Don’t let it affect your confidence - I don’t generally take inbound recruiting calls and haven’t reached out, but I know some really talented people that have been in similar situations with senior recruiting: there are a lot to subtle things that make people think a leader is a good or imperfect fit, and it’s pretty subjective.
Agree. It’s good to have a senior-led hiring process as long as there’s a professional admin person keeping track. Bizarrely I was ghosted by a big name search firm who approached me to join their leadership team.
Name and shame.
