A former epsilon guy showed me a product called "bridge track" that they've used for YEARS and how you can positively identify almost any human on earth with 15 data points, and how that data can be bought and sold by average people, companies, and foreign powers. Then he explained how tiktok gathers data, roombas map your home, smart fridges can create a profile on everyone living in your house, etc
He thought it was awesome. When I got home I ran my Alexa under the sink and threw it in the trash
The alternative is higher prices on almost everything. TV’s are substantially cheaper because the manufacturers only have to break even on the hardware, the profit comes from the data and/or advertising business.
A lot of the privacy initiatives from Apple and google will greatly reduce fingerprinting accuracy and depth.

I’ve had the opposite reaction. I’ve worked around cyber and privacy issues for so long I’m numb to it. Unless you take really extreme measures, are 100% consistent about it, and ensure everyone else in your digital footprint does, too, it’s pretty much impossible to evade data collection, and eventually, exposure. The thing I’m interested in is what happens to this data profile in 100 years? Just like we can view our great grandparents’ census and other government records to glean details about their lives (aka the central data sources for Ancestry and other similar services), what will our grandkids find out about us, and to what degree of granularity? Like, meemaw searched for socks August 1, 2021, and then had them delivered that afternoon by Walmart?
