Found out that in-laws (63 yr old) have been contributing almost every year to Roth IRA, but have kept it in cash. I asked why they did invest and they just said they didn’t want the amount to go down (facepalm)...I’d like to try and persuade them into at least investing some of this in a safe way (ETFs, bonds?) until they retire in a few years. Any recs on what to invest in? Not sure how much is in the account exactly, but I’m sure it’s at least 150- 200k.
I'm really confused on how the employer sponsored 401k impacts taxes. I'm filing my taxes and credit karma says I owe $2000. I only contributed $8500 to my 401k in 2020 and want to see what would happen if I increased my contribution in 2021. I'm playing around with different scenarios and if I increase my 401k contribution to $19,500, credit karma still shows that I owe $2,000. I thought it should go down as my taxable income is lowered. Am I missing something?
Best online broker for a beginner? no experience investing (parents don’t invest :/) recent grad with about 20k in savings. Any and all advice! Where should I put my $$ [already contribute to 401k]
In a 50% marginal tax bracket. Feeling demotivated to chase any future raises. Government is going to take half anyways. Effort reward just isn't there anymore.
Preface: I am a noob. For my 401k with Fidelity, I have 50% in JLGPX (large cap), 30% in FCAGX (small cap), and 20% in COSIX (bonds), but I’m only 27 (no bonds?) All investments are down, so does that mean now is or is not a good time to rebalance? Also saw someone mention doing 80% in Large cap (my options are BSPAX, OGEAX, JLPGX, or PEQIX) and 20% in Intl (my options are WFENX, FOPAX, or FSPSX). Would I be better off using BSPAX to try to stay with S&P500? And how do I choose an Intl one?
Can anyone direct me to a source where I can learn about the 401k program. I'm 7 months in and haven't started yet but I'm also about to get married and I don't know if I want to lose from pay check.
Boutique firm (n=30) and the founder is considering a term sheet from a investor looking to acquire 30%. It's an decent payday for non founding partners & a retirement package for the founder who, to be fair, would need us to buy him out to retire which would be tough given relative equity levels. Assurances of non interference in firm operations but I'm concerned that having a non-contributing equity 'partner' will result in down the road issues for the firm. Anyone have experience with this?
Anyone have specific financial goals they're willing to share and how to get there? I'm 30 yo, l10 and $$ gives me anxiety. Currently making ~$95k with $30k in brokerage and $30k 401k. Or, tips for not stressing out that I'll be broke in retirement? Should I make a lateral move out at some point and target a $250k salary by X age?
Knowing that the point at which you switch from Roth 401k to traditional 401k is typically a calculation of the income you forecast you’ll draw down in reticent, at what salary are you/did you switch from Roth to traditional 401k? I’m making $100k now and thinking about making the switch soon.
32, Single and just finished all the student loans and family commitments. I have 60k savings and make 160k per year or 6200 biweekly pre tax. Can you please help understand how to prioritize savings, 401k, post tax index funds. Thanks!
Offered 100% 401k match up to 5% but vested in tiers of 20% up to 5 years (20% 1st year, 40% second year, 60% third year, etc.) is this really bad ? ACN offers a way better deal
Just rolled about 20k from old 401k into a Roth IRA at Fidelity. Any suggestions on investment distribution for a 24 year old?
Million bucks inside employer plan paying 4% guaranteed. 82 year old widow with another mill in investments plus enough pension to meet all needs. Would anyone here move it? If so, where?
My 401k doesn’t allow me to keep cash. So I need to buy into some fund with each contribution. As a couple we are maxing our contributions but given the market turmoil any guidance what’s the safest option. For now it seems I am putting a huge chunk of money away to go down in value immediately and it hurts dearly.
Looking for investment advice. 23M - no debt, rent is $1300 and is my only big expense other than food/drinks/travel. TC ~$90K, have $34K in HYSA, $7K in traditional 401K (14% contribution) and $2K in HSA (maxing contribution). What are some good next steps? Roth IRA invested in VOO/VTI? Anything else?
Any recommendations for setting up a will? Not a financial genius like so many here, but bought a house, property, and have $150k in 401k.
Funnel 19.5k for rest of year to pay off car at 5.9% interest? Or funnel 19.5k for rest of year to start 401k from zero @ apprx 6% historic returns and get that groundwork for compounding? I can only choose 1 this year. Older career-starter and anxious about starting retirement savings but want to get rid of debt. Help!
I’m withdrawing from my 401k. Does anyone know if I can wave my 10% penalty? I’m not doing it cause of covid or hardship. I have a few things I want to invest in on my own without it being locked up
So I want to buy a house in the next 5 years. Should I put my money towards my 401k or should I put it in a brokerage account to try and grow the money so that when I buy my house I don’t have to worry about penalties etc and just worry about the LTCG

Was your education worth it? What was you undergrad school/ tuition per year/starting salary / first company? Bonus question how much debt did you have when you left school?
This was cool to see
Has “being patient” with your career ever helped? Keep getting told this by senior leadership but I’m unclear about whether it’s actually good advice or just bs they’re telling me because they don’t want to help me advance in my career.
Anyone know alix partners mba intern salary?

What do people think about expensing $25 of groceries instead of a $25 dinner on Thursdays as a travel meal, and then saving the rest for the weekend?

Getting feedback to "smile more" makes me want to throw my laptop thru a window&quit. Go ahead and tell me I'm overreacting or being a special snowflake but a guy would not 👏get👏that👏feedback.
Ok this is going to be quite controversial because it touches on the subject of mental health in one’s professional life, but on the other hand drawing the line in the interest of fairness to other participants in a game. One camp says “She knew the rules, she broke the rules, end of discussion.” The other says “But certain situations like Richardson’s need to evoke a sense of compassion and nuance that at best cause a reevaluation of the rule itself,” what camp do you belong?
Maybe a dumb question but what’s the appeal of getting a MBA. People seem obsessed with it and I get you can leverage it for a slightly higher salary but you can do the same with an additional 2 years of experience.
My manager asked me to get something done at 5:30 today. My Birthday dinner was at 6:30. I turned in a "not-flawless" project plan. Should I be nervous he's upset with me (he knew about my birthday).
Do you ever feel self conscious about the undergrad school you went to? I used to be pretty proud of it, since it’s an ok school (think UCLA, Berkeley, UMich) and was great for my program, but running in bigger circles (especially the pre-MBA crowd) and seeing how much value people place on brand name has me feeling weird.
