Anyone else kind of afraid of flying on 737s when we DO start traveling again? I know airlines have already experienced a lot of financial strain during covid, but I’m wondering if they’ll ever phase out the 737 with all the s*^%^ that has happened over the past few years.

No, they're completely fine. Assuming you're talking about the 737 MAX, it's the most scrutinized plane in history, I'm quite sure they found every possible thing that could go wrong with it. How embarrassed would the FAA be and how broke would Boeing be if they had missed something big and dangerous?

SC2 the aircraft flight recorder indicates what the problem was. They know of the problem because previous pilots mentioned it, but didn’t write it up. (An unfortunate practice for airlines that aim to avoid maintenance costs.) “Pilots on a previous flight in the same jet experienced a similar autothrottle problem, according to one person briefed on the matter, but the discrepancy apparently wasn’t written up as required in the jet’s maintenance log. A spokeswoman from the airline declined to comment.”

What if the pilots haven’t had enough practice this whole last year 😬

My husband is a pilot and to my knowledge, they send them out to train every other week at Delta airlines. They are training on the new airbus this week as we speak! You will be fine

The 737 MAX series is the only one with issues, and after multiple catastrophes I doubt it would have been recertified were it unsafe. If you’re still concerned, Delta doesn’t operate any of the 7MAX, only 738s and 739ERs (737 Next Gen). Really hope Boeing does something new in 15-20 years though. The 737 frame is over 50 years old, and all the enhancements smack of pouring money into a hooptie to keep it going.

The 737 NG is literally one of the safest aircrafts ever... No aircraft can account for poor pilot training and poor maintenance that often accompanies these crashes. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2019/09/18/magazine/boeing-737-max-crashes.amp.html http://www.airsafe.com/events/models/rate_mod.htm

I think OP is talking about the MAX, but yes, it is important to distinguish between the NG and MAX.

like

Aside from the 737 Max, the other variants are as safe or safer than pretty much all other planes types. Additionally, if you are flying on any of the large airlines, the maintenance and training is generally superior. It's pretty easy to avoid the Max in the US due to the few in service. Also some airlines, such as Delta don't own any.

like

OP - American has 24 737MAX planes out of 884 total mainline aircraft. It shouldn't be that difficult to avoid

I think it depends on the airline as well - always go with big airline

I was an aircraft mechanic for 20 years before switching to consulting. I won’t say what specific airline, but i will say it was in the Star Alliance family. With that being said, it’s not the airframe you should worry about, it’s the airline. The FAA enforces a strict set of guidelines that must be followed on all sides of aviation. That is the reason why some foreign airlines are not allowed to fly into the US, or why they are not allowed to join Star Alliance or OneWold... it goes beyond perks and points. There are many airlines I wouldn’t get on if you paid me to, because those in the industry know about the shady maintenance practices that go on. Luckily, it’s not like that here or in most countries. Budget operators in SE/SW Asia have a bad track record and usually purchase planes that are near the end of their service life, hoping they can squeeze a few thousand more hours out of them. So, before I forget what my point is in the first place, I would fly on any plane in any of the alliances without hesitation, and the ones who aren’t like Southwest Etc. No need to worry about the Max, as it is now one of the most scrutinized planes in history. Happy flying!

How many woman are still regularly wearing heels in the office? I’ve found that my office is much more casual than is was pre-covid but still need to look presentable. I am tall and in returning to my pre covid work wardrobe I’m realizing how much of my clothing I need to wear heels with - either because pants are too long or it just looks odd with flats. I feel weird walking around in heels when the other women are more casual. Should I stay in line with what others are wearing or are heels ok?
