This so depends on where you're at. I'm in industry for context. At my last company, the director I reported into had late nights several times a week, worked damn near every weekend, and didn't have a team to support her on a lot outside of me and one other person. At my current company, the director I work with the most works a regular 9-:530 or 6 most days from what I can tell, manages a team of several managers and 10 staff, and takes Friday afternoons basically off unless there's an urgent item.

So glad I left my last company.

Yup, looking at managers and I don’t think I want that anymore.

If your goal is MBA then I don’t think you really need to stay until manager. I would talk to some program recruiters to see what they are looking for in candidates. Also it’s never a bad idea to be looking. I am looking for new jobs right now in industry. We will see if anything comes of it.

I’ve told my manager numerous times they do not make the role of being manager appealing at all . So yeah manager is no longer my goal and already took on another job.

Absolutely. That’s why I left 😂

How does one find direction in what they want to do in life? I don’t find my job as a tax manager fulfilling and my busy time conflicts with some of my favorite hobbies, skiing and snowmobiling. I find it hard to determine my next step because I’m all about relationships, love my clients and am a sales/big picture thinker, so naturally industry doesn’t interest me. I’ve been super lost for a few years and think I need to act on my unhappiness and get out while I’m young. Any advice?

Hi fishes,

I have the following 2 offers..

Cognizant- 21L fixed and 1.5L variable
PWC - 22L fixed

This is for a guidewire role.
Which is a better offer? What would be a good option for growth wrt role, salary etc.
Also, PWC claims to offer variable based on their fixed CTC based on the ratings.. is this true ? How much is the avg percentage given?

Thanks in advance!

Do you record your unbillable time? I have had conflicting responses. I have been told it's not good for efficiency calculations but others have told me if your still doing work let people know. For example, I get weird international stuff sometimes that not everyone gets (I think maybe? ) and I need to reread the 5471 rules or 8865 rules as I do the returns. I have been told not to bill for this but if I didn't have to spend time to do such things my billable hours would be higher
