Opposite here. Past year has made me realize I only like it because of the travel
RT x 10000000. I’ll be making a sandwich and away from my computer for 10 mins and get an urgent call I’m expected to be ready for
No. I’m of the opposite mind. If we don’t start traveling soon, I might have to quit. This isn’t what I signed up for.
LOL at these comments. I like the flexibility of WFH. I was going to leave consulting after a few due to the travel not being something I want in my late 20s/early 30s but feel like now I can go at it for longer.
Opposite. I'd have left already if it weren't for the travel. Per diems were nice! As was seeing new places.
There are pros and cons. The per diems afforded by travel (+ the points) amounts to, effectively, thousands in lost compensation.
My biggest gripe is that there's just more work and less natural breaks. Also, learning is worse in this environment.
That being said, I love being able to sleep in and also love already being home once I close my laptop. Also easier to take mini breaks throughout the day.
Nope, being with clients is the best part and the travel is the price of admission and part of why the salaries are what they are.
We should however creat alternative career path for people, who want to do the slides and Power BIs, etc not travel and get paid 40% less

Less because that track likely would not involve the same type of sales/revenue generating activity and would be more about technical skills and delivery.
That said, the loss of travel benefits (points, miles, status, etc) is a real hit to comp for client facing consultants, and I’d actually expect to be paid more if travel is substantially less in the future.

Used to view travel as a chore (though it was fine once I got there), now it sounds amazing.
Total opposite...wish the travel perks would come back. Afraid of what the travel “perks” will look like post-Covid as some companies see cost-savings in 100% remote work...

I’d have already quit if I didn’t have hope we’ll return to traveling.

The longer the pandemic drags, the fewer people seem to be pretending that mostly remote work is sustainable or desirable, or that we’re as productive as we were before 2020.
I do expect reduced travel, but I don’t see consulting remaining viable without it, both because we’re a relationship business and because firms will have trouble attracting and retaining talent without it.
I just found out the other day from my SM that we’ll likely never travel again, and I’m crushed because that means I’ll never see my teammates in person again, and without the interpersonal connections what’s the point?
Don’t know what I’m going to do now.

That's just for your client - there are other clients out in the sea.

Ive never traveled as a consultant and I still hate it
