Anyone else planning on getting no work done on Wednesday when American democracy explodes?

It’s a few republicans pulling a stunt. I’m not gonna let it get me worked up. We have a crazy guy that’s stands on the corner and screams at people every day and we just tune him out now too.

I’m working as usual. My team doesn’t discuss politics at all, though it’s clear we are all mostly on the same page. Just gotta keep billing until this all settles down and then bill some more.

likeuplifting

Yeah but good reminder to self to do what I can bill versus doing tasks unable to bill

Republican here. I think it's just a stunt. Wouldn't be worried. Our constitution has been through hundreds of years of elections And 45 presidents. We'll be okay. We can withstand this division.

likehelpful

No, not at all. We lost. We handled Covid poorly and 300k Americans are dead. We didn't deserve a second term. If Covid didn't happen I bet we would have pulled through to a second term.

Nothing's exploding. A few senators are going to embarrass themselves, and by association the U.S., but things are going to proceed to January 20 just like every four years.

like

lol glad you asked this. I made a passing comment about 1/6 and got blank stares and silence was deafening

likefunny

Wednesday the 20th I’m taking the day off, certainly. This Wednesday? A couple children throwing a temper tantrum never stopped me from working.

likefunny

I take this back. I was incorrect. This is awful.

likefunny

ILL TAKE THOSE APOLOGIES NOW.

like

I stayed true to my comment - didn’t discuss any of the events that transpired with my team or firm and just did my best to keep billing.

smart

You sure called it!

So I’ve been intentionally avoiding the news as I’m living off grid on a farm. Which apocalyptic episode is this coming from? Please inform me.

Congress is set to vote on the certification of the electoral college votes. There is a number of republicans who are set to object to certification. Now, last night, to make things more of a debacle, an hour long audio recording of Trump trying to get the Georgia Secretary of State to find a very specific amount of votes to overturn Georgia’s election result in his favor was released.

Basically, 1/6 will be democracy exploding in the sense that Trump is refusing to concede and now republicans are baselessly trying to overturn the electoral college despite having no grounds to do so. They even tried to convince Pence to just decide that Trump won in his capacity as Vice President/overseer of the electoral college tally. It’s basically just veiled sedition.

helpful

This aged well.

Hi folks, has anyone paid any company to file H1B for them? I got a call from a company called Cyber Chasse. Post an initial screening call, if selected we have to pay 708 usd (non-refundable) for H1B registration. Once we get the visa, processing fee of 5500 + 18% GST USD.

Is this legit? Or the chances are so low that I should not go for it?

Seen a lot of “my company is so amazing posts” continuously on LinkedIn a la “here at XYZ we give people lots of time off and it’s amazing” or even “so happy XYZ company allowed me to take maternity/paternity leave” - are folks just trying to look like team players or do employees get some sort of incentive for doing this at companies? I feel like the folks I see that work at Salesforce (for example) do this constantly and more so than other big companies.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Are you expected to tip the photographer and if so, how much?

I’ve started working at this law firm back in March of this year. I wasn’t too familiar with the law field and was in school to become a paralegal. I accepted this position of being an administrative assistant at their firm and started to learn a lot of things that my major would cover. I work with 3 other people including two attorneys and one paralegal. Fast forward a few months now, I’ve started to realize that this firm may not be a good fit for me. But I’m finding it hard to leave, tips?
