Anyone else realize only a few months in that big law just isn’t for them? I hate everything about it already and I’m not even swamped yet. Absolutely wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for loans. If anyone else transitioned out within a year or less, I’d love to hear about your experience.

Yes, I realized within the first three months that I wouldn’t be staying. I paid off my loans and then stayed until I was a fifth year. It never got easier or more bearable, but I became accustomed to it a little bit (for better or worse). I’m really glad I stayed as long as I did because of the freedom that what I was able to save provides me with. I’m sure this is a similar experience for biglaw associates.

Feeling similar, but I also can’t decide yet what impact the past year/pandemic has had on my ambition. I suspect it is significant.

I feel the same way, but I think it’s had a significant impact on my priorities as well.

Respectfully, two months in a 100 year pandemic is not nearly enough time to throw in the towel, especially if this is your first professional job. I know this is a brutal time. That’s so for all of us but most especially for first years. Try your best to give it another year before you make any major judgments. The signs are positive for a return to normalcy. If you still hate your job after we’re back on a normal path, you then can examine and pursue other options.

What could replace or improve upon putting a "hold" on talent in the booking process?

Having 8.7 YOE now, Joined wipro 4 months back with 26.5+1lac JB. Skills business analytics. My current project does not follow agile processes at all, very relaxed client. However what im worried is after 2 years would interviewers expect me to have handled a project all alone and acted as a product owner. Thats what i sense once i have 10 YOE, if i switch it would be 6th company, (2 years break due to MBA ofcourse)

Noticing job postings stating high salary ranges for CA, CO, NYC, etc. I live in NY not NYC and work for a startup. I feel like the last two startups I’ve worked for the compensation departments have not done a great job at offering me a salary that is even close to my market value. I’ve had to take two pay cuts now after two layoffs, and am trying to strategically plan. How do you suggest I navigate the market value discussion, and turn it into a value based discussion? Any job recommendations?

Read something a couple of months ago about how only corporate counsels have a path to General Counsel - is this true? Is it harder to become the Head of Legal or Chief Legal Officer of a company if one starts out their in-house career as a commercial counsel?

Hi guys! I joined Deloitte 3yrs back as a campus recruit. The offer letter that I got at that time was a protected one which I am not able to access now as that has expired. But I need that offer letter for document upload in another company’s recruitment process. Is there a way I can access that? I did not find in tod.

Accenture with 21.5 lpa fixed (ctc 26.76 lpa) or PWC with 20.5 lpa fixed.

Is anyone from Bangalore here? Can you please suggest some good areas to get a flat, from where I can commute easily.

I practice PE M&A at one of the big firms in the space, but I'm getting tired of just doing M&A transactions and would like to explore doing other kinds of corporate transactions at a place like Goodwin, Cooley or Gunderson where only part of the work in the group is M&A and the rest is essentially being in house corporate counsel. Has anyone made a move similar to what I would be doing? Is it easier to find time for a personal life or is it the same level of demands?

Any tips on how to confront a staffer who’s becoming passive aggressive, constantly interrupting, and pressing me literally every few minutes to ‘see how progress is coming’. FYI, staffer is a 4Y associate. We’re on a deadline. I am, lower than low on the totem poll, yet, do not believe this is professional behavior. I’m happy to put off our conversation until after the deadline, but I’m not keen on working with them in the future unless this is solved.

What do you folks consider a reasonable monthly rent as a single Big Law associate, limited to true 1-bedroom apartments in Manhattan? I'm a mid-level associate on market pay. I'm a little squeamish at the notion of paying more than like $4k, but everything I've looked at in/below that range is kind of sketchy or involves terrible commutes to midtown. Is it too indulgent of me to pay around $4,200-$4,300 in rent every month?
