This article was an incredible read— how boomers are struggling in the digital age to understand fact from fiction. https://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5f998039c5b6a4a2dc813d3d
Ok boomer
Tuskegee experiments.
Lots of folks have a lot of trust to be earned back. I don't blame em and you shouldn't fault folks for being skeptical either.
Right on. I had no hesitation for MMR vaccinations for my children because it was developed by non-politcally pressured scientists and has been proven to be safe.
This COVID vaccine (regardless of manufacturer) I do not trust. However millions will have received it by the time I'm eligible. Hopefully, all goes well and my confidence will build.

Yeah - my sister and I have been struggling with this... it’s hard seeing our mom be so wacky and driven by conspiracy theories when your whole adolescent life, your parents are supposed to be pillars of logic and stability

We just always thought she was smarter/ more grounded than she has shown this year :/

Omg yes. My dad started getting into conspiracy theories and is now against vaccines. And my future children from getting vaccines 🙄

Also I’m not saying she’s a quack because she’s against the vaccine, it’s her reasons for being against the vaccine, I’ll be chipped and other rubbish
Lmao EY3. Let me guess, the election was rigged too? Put your orthopedics back on and get back to your mall walk friend.

I wish my mom would do that but she is in heaven now.

Sorry to hear this 😔 couldn’t imagine not being able to talk to my mom whenever I wanted. She’ll call me with more of her research and I’ll say “mummy not this again” and she’ll chuckle before diving into her latest findings
Absolutely quaky. My dad has gotten into MLM colloidal silver (despite government and medical professional warnings) and thinks it will make him immune from covid.
Such a great podcast S1! I second that recommendation.
Early this year, from paranoia, I started calling mine every day for hours to chat up anything since I didn’t want them to get bored and go out (was still waiting to see how this thing spreads); it made me realize that I need to talk to them about a lot of things and ensure they’re not being influenced by bs. So I made it a point to talk to them about everything I read (science, politics, economics, Intl news). Not only has it given us a lot more to connect on, but I now see them call out bs content they get forwarded through social media before even considering it.
I would proceed with caution for this one. It is a type of vaccine that has never been done before and the long term effects are unknown. The gov jst wants the precious economy working again, not a care in the world if we end up living like I am Legend. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/different-vaccines/mrna.html

I haven’t noticed any random urges to upgrade my version of windows since I got the Pfizer vaccine... my chip must be faulty.
Parents can be nuts, but they love you. Be respectful, and pray your kids (if you have them) will someday treat you as kindly.
My parents don’t believe conspiracy theories but they did not start taking Covid seriously until this month which was very hard. They were traveling and going out to eat, and telling me “life must go on.” Now they’ve known people who had it and are starting to be careful, but they still don’t entirely get it. For example, they invite my relative who is a nurse over for dinner but removed their hand towels for paper towels so no one reuses the hand towel. 🤣
My sister formerly lefty hippie became a right wing, mask bashing kook

My parents were super proud that I volunteered for the Pfizer vaccine trials. I am saddened by these stories of parents disappointing their children but I guess we are all human and make mistakes, life lessons:(

I'm guessing you didn't go through the blow dryer to the nose to kill the virus w/ heat phase with them
Not just parents. I have a friend who is constantly posting conspiracy theories about the vaccine. They have always been anti-vaxx but I kind of ignored it. They live overseas but usually comes to visit and stay with me. I’m not sure I’m going to want them in my apartment if they haven’t had a vaccine.
