Hi All!
I am currently a Senior Software Engineer(Backend) with 4 YOE. My current CTC is 21LPA (All Fixed) with additional Yearly bonus. I got a call from Google (Pune/Bangalore/ Remote) for Software Engineer - Backend. I have the following doubts but any insights are welcome -
1. Does the lower designation offered make any difference?
2. Kinda ambiguous, but what kind of hike or ballpark pay can I expect?
3. Any similar interviews experiences or focus areas I should prepare for?

Anecdotally my Facebook recruiter was happy I had execution experience because he thought consultants “talked more than they worked”. We need to stop tying our worth to firm prestige, no one actually cares

It really is a testament to how insecure most consultants are deep down.
I exited to industry and am exicitdd to grill MBB because they grilled me so hard
Coach
Y'all spend too much mental energy stressing about prestige.

The way people talk about exits, you'd think companies hire "ex-firms" not actual humans
Coach
Well, at least they don’t think you’re all auditors or tax accountants
If I get one more freaking unsolicited message about some internal audit or controller position....
This feels untrue when it comes to MBB, but I don’t have any data to back that up
So why work at BCG, BCG1? MBB has worse hours on average - why not go do KPMG implementation if all the exits are the same?
This isn't universally true. At top exits the company and its recruiters definitely understand the difference between MBB and B4. And the hiring managers at top exits are often are ex MBB alums
I get both OP & S&1's points. Reality is this is situational, but on average OP is correct. At google within a few groups (strategy focus), Mck tends to carry more weight, at others (Biz Ops, PM), more about the experience. On the other extreme, supporting S&1's point, you see some job posting stating MBB preference. E.g. Take a look at corp strategy job postings at Kimberly Clark. Several others do the same.
Generally, brand/prestige will open doors, but one's performance and experience gets them the offer.
Yup seeing this now. No difference between MBB and other consulting firms. Maybe it’s just me or the tech roles I am looking at right now. May have helped if I was trying to exit to PE or VC.

Depends on who is hiring (what person and what company). Some care. Some don’t. Some don’t know any better
Which MBB has such title 😲

You went from the EYP post to here?
It matters because, as I said on the other thread, the recruiter follows the direction of the hiring manager, who follows the direction of their boss, who often is an ex consultant or closely associated with one

Carry on, then
You have a better shot at getting the interview coming from MBB. From there, it probably comes down to interview.
