I’ve had 11 students this school year tested positive, have been quarantined or possibly exposed. I wear my mask and follow specified guidelines, by the powers of the Universe I have not been affected. I have perfect attendance, so far this year. I would like to mention that my School District and Principal have also followed those guidelines to the letter. So it’s been a work in progress. I was afraid of entering the classroom environment under the present conditions but I overcame my fear and pressed forward. There are always going to be cases. This virus is like the flu, it’s reoccurring and it adapts because it wants to survive. This is our new normal and until the world gets on the same page it’s not going to change.
And parents will be COMPLETELY STRAIGHTFORWARD AND HONEST about their child's health...Ya.. Right. I have had students show up and sit directly in front of me knowing full well they're Covid positive. Parents knew but then they feign ignorance. I'm tired of the BS. I don't trust their parents a bit. Think about before Covid, parents would send their kids to school with temperatures and the flu. The CDC is giving people more credit than they deserve. CDC thinks that they will stay home if they are sick. People are stupid and this is just going to prolong the epidemic..
And no.. they're not "propagating fear." They're trying to walk a fine line. The reason why we don't have polio or smallpox is because the CDC and the world health organization towed a hard line and required everyone to get vaccinated. Now they keep going back-and-forth trying to appease everyone They need to be harsher and stricter. I'm sick of this epidemic and I blame people who are not fully vaccinated and not adhering to the rules. If people would just do that, the virus would die down and we could go on with our lives.. But no..."fer meeee."
Really we should all test before we go back to school. If we do that what percentage will be positive?
VES1, this is pretty much what happened to my brother and his girlfriend. They went to a gathering and we’re told that someone else there tested positive, so they took tests (negative) before showing up to my parent’s house. Both tested positive within a few days after this.
Lately, it seems most coughs and sniffles are covid-19 omicron strand. Trust me, you don't want it. Avoid it by all means necessary. Even being vaccinated it is still kicking our butts a week later.
Rising Star
I was sick at the start of Christmas break but now I’m better, just still struggling to get rid of this cough. Prayers to everyone who is sick. My prayer right now is that school gets delayed because there are people who are not able to get home due to flight cancellations and when they get home I really believe they need time to quarantine. Over the break we don’t know where these students or their families have been. For me February 1st, 2022 would be the best time to resume classes or go virtual for the rest of the year.
My son was exposed and tested positive with no symptoms. We did not get together at Christmas. Very sad but grateful for no serious illness.
Yes, started with my daughter who had no symptoms at our Christmas gathering and spread to the double vaccinated, a hospitalization, spread to niece, other friends and a whole family, including elderly. This is concerning as hospitals are filling up and can’t keep up with testing.
This is why you should get vaccinated. It is the only way we will beat this
1000% Yes. Get fully vaccinated with Pfizer or Moderna. Then get boosted with same. Wear a mask when among the non-vaccinated or immunocompromised, wash your hands.
Were you ever that concerned about contracting influenza?
Actually, in 2009 I was an instructional coach and had 4 schools that I supported. At one school, I was in a classroom with “littles”, teaching a writing lesson and was exposed to Swine Flu. (The entire class was quarantined because there were multiple other cases among the students.)
I was the sickest I’ve ever been! I don’t normally run temps (family trait), but I ran 103 for 4 days straight and only left my bed for the bathroom a few steps away. Took me 12 days before I had any energy and I’m usually a high-energy person.
My point in all of this is… if Covid is worse than Swine Flu (and by all accounts I’ve read, it is!), then I don’t want to get it! I’m fully vaxxed with booster, and am very good about hand washing, etc. Masks are mandatory for everyone on school grounds. Still, I know what I’m doing is working because I’ve had at least 6 kids I’ve sent home who stayed home for 2 weeks with it. It’s just scary sh*t, no doubt about it.
Yep. My husband was the only vaxxed person in his office. His boss texted him on the 18th, my first day of break, to say he'd tested positive. Hubby developed symptoms a few days later and then tested positive. His symptoms were mild, but I spent my whole break isolating since I'd been exposed. Needless to say, we cancelled the small family gathering we were going to have on Christmas. Since we started winter break, I know more than 10 people that have tested positive. The three unvaxxed were all hospitalized. I'm very worried about returning to school, especially with the shorter isolation times and the vicious spread of this variant. I know many students were travelling over break and that we will have major outbreaks. Stay safe everyone! Hoping 2022 brings better things!
The cases are higher than they have ever been in my county. I have been vaccinated and boosted, but I am still feeling nervous about heading back to the classroom!
I spent Xmas mostly alone to avoid exposure. As of yesterday, 11 friends and family tested positive and one had to go to ER.
My 14yo was a close contact at school notified the day we left - I had many in my classroom the week before we went out. I did get my hands on a rapid test for and it was negative for my daughter.
We are all vaxxed and so far have been spared but I think at this point it’s just going to be everywhere.
Will be interesting to see what happens when we go back to school. Do they delay the start
My entire family has it. I’ll get tested Friday. If I’m positive then I’ll extend my break.
That’s my plan too!

We have not yet, but our entire extended family group is vaccinated, and the vast majority have been boosted. I'm sure that's just coincidence, though 😉
Illinois HS2 - All of us are vaccinated too, and only 2 unboosted. Omicron seems to be INCREDIBLY infectious, but generally not severe, especially in us vaccinated folks. so far it’s been fevers, severe body aches, sore throats, and exhaustion for those with symptoms. So very flu-ish. My sister had her fever drop from 102 to 100.2 in one night though, so it seems to be moving along pretty quick.
Tested positive as well as several family members that gathered during the holidays. Luckily we are all vaccinated so symptoms were very mild. My quarantine will be over by the time we return.
My daughter got two negative rapid tests, until she woke up sore and developed fever, by that time it was too late, it spread from contact to contact. She finally got a positive 24 hour test on the seventh day of her exposure.
Sadly the rapid tests are only about 80% accurate. The other 20% are false negatives...but better than nothing I suppose.
Also, my ‘exposure’ was limited to breathing air in the same room as a person who we found out was positive the next day (yes, mask free b/c he tested negative the day before), and briefly touching the same board game pieces. No hugs. Always distanced 3 ft or more apart… omicron is a beast!!!
Yes! 5-8 ppl I know of for the past 2 days
