Anyone else sick of equity partners constantly telling their practice groups that the market is cooling off and everyone should step it up? I almost forwarded him the 5 recruiter/firm emails I received while on our weekly practice group call. Hilarious how firms are trying to reclaim the in control narrative with veiled threats.

…this has not happened to me. Maybe you should follow some of those recruiter leads to somewhere nicer.

To be fair, I am in real estate finance and the market has truly cooled off this month. It is almost scary how little work there now is in the pipeline. I am a partner and literally none of my associates know that when we finish what they are working on there will not be new work coming for awhile. We had 33 deals in the pipeline in June and now we have 8. Hopefully things change but I think it will be a very lean 4th quarter (the first of my career).

I do all areas of real estate and it’s scary slow. If Q4 is slow, I can’t imagine what next year is going to be like.

Recruiters have no incentive to be honest with you about current market conditions

More context - our practice group is still aggressively hiring too.

It’s annoying, but on the other hand, you can just ignore this and if they’re right then you get to be slow, which I long for after a ridiculous 290 hour month

This sounds like a just your firm thing. Our equity partners don’t do this. They’re focused on changes in the law.

It’s not untrue. Disputes work has been very slow in my area

They are in control. And most markets are slowing down.

Things are slow but to place any blame for that on associates is outrageous (unless you have origination requirements at your firm!). Layoffs bound to happen & they’ll blame it on you as if hours don’t come from partners…
