Anyone else struggling to find industry positions paying more than consulting salary? I’ve had a few interviews for positions with decent title and company but would require me to take a 40 - 60k pay cut from my current TC. I don’t have an MBA, so that may be hurting me?

What level are you, currently? I think it may be more feasible at a junior level. As I understand it, people typically don’t go into industry for better pay (consulting pays better). I think they usually go that route for better WLB.

My experience has been the more interesting the company and role, the less it pays as more people will be interested. The best paying exit opportunities are generally in boring (at least to me) industries like utilities and financial services where they have 10,000+ staff and you’re just a cog.

Currently at ~$210k TC 2 years post-MBA and having trouble finding exits at $250k TC (most are ~$200k TC)

Yeah - at my level even FAANG hasn’t made competitive offers. It’s a real problem.

What's the equivalent of SM at other firms?

Considered buyside roles before? Maybe too late for investment team but ops and groups like Vista Consulting Group pay very well.

Haven’t looked at those as options, but not a bad thought

No - I’m saying it will address comp concerns but not other concerns I’m guessing OP is looking for exiting consulting

I’ve looked at some medium sized companies $2B to $20B, all publicly traded. I’m a Manager with Tech and Enterprise experience.

I took a pay cut for industry and it was worth my sanity and time. It’s not always about chasing money

I have friends facing similar issues. One is taking a significant cut leaving EYP, 2 years post MBA, so don’t think that’s necessarily the issue.

Are you open to relo? Industry change?

Not open to relocation, but open to other industry’s. I’m in a decent size market, but not NYC or SF.

Is it worth the pay cut?

The position might be better overall even if you're paying less

VC1, even buyside VC roles at Sr Associate level only pay close to 200k TC. Isn’t it?

VC comp is highly highly variable. Look at the distribution of VC returns. I’m doing better than that with 2 YoE.

I am having the same issue, OP and S&1. Just became SM1 and typical opportunities are $250k. Even $300k TC roles are hard to come by. I am only talking about roles where recruiters reached out to me about on LinkedIn

In these times, if your referral bonus is $1k or less for seasonal employees you are asking for: 1. Employees who put in work to refer people that end up negotiating a part time option don't work on referring anyone else. 2. If the potential new hire gets an offer, employees have 0 incentive to convince them to accept it. This can even lead to them giving negotiation tips which get the new hire a $5-10k higher offer. They may even recommend accepting a diff firm's offer straight up.

Hi fishes - I’m with an MBB as a 2y Partner looking to move to B4, for a bunch of reasons. In active conversations with two of them. While compensation levels seem similar for now, the other posts on this bowl suggest we end up making more at B4 than MBB. (Referring to the 1.5M number of a y4 partner at b4). What is the real trajectory that people here have seen at B4? And how much of that is bonus - base - other components?
