Sounds like it’s a matter of them needing to respect your choices. Some parents (mine included) do not know how to respect their adult children’s choices and that’s on them.
I do believe you are pretty safe flying southwest if you take the necessary precautions (at least through November where they leave middle seats open)—grab a window seat and hunker down. Probably have a greater risk of getting it from your parents if they are going out to restaurants than you do of getting it on the plane going to them at least.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with your skepticism. Fwiw I have been on 6 planes and did not get sick. I think 4-5 of them were completely full (United and American)

Do what makes you comfortable OP! Personally, I disagree with that article as well, and definitely think the entire process of flying is very high risk. What folks forget is the entire security process and being in the airport before and after the flight which is so risky.
Just keep explaining to your parents why you aren’t comfortable and this decision is in your and their best interest.
Do whatever you feel comfortable with. One can catch the virus on a plane, probably less so if people are wearing masks but why take a chance.
The data on covid transmission related to flying is showing that flying is pretty darn safe with everyone required to wear masks. Probably the bigger risk is being exposed by family while in a family (no mask) environment. You only have control over you, so if staying home is where you feel safe and can avoid being exposed by family members who aren’t as cautious as you, then keep your polite and firm stance. It’s probably easier than making demands of everyone to maintain safety precautions if you were to go home. This will pass.
