Anyone else suffer from panic disorder? As a creative I feel like I'm conditioned to overthink things and pick stuff apart in my head. That may be good for the job, but it has a brutal impact on my mental health. Anybody in a similar space or have advice on how to separate the two?

I have anxiety, and have found that medicine literally changed my life. Not in a “sort of made a difference” kind of way, but in a “If I had one billion dollars I’d spend it building a time machine to convince myself to talk to my doctor about anxiety 15 years ago” kind of way. Talk to your doctor. It can change your life.

Sorry you’re going through this. I’ve had anxiety my whole life but it bubbled over into full blown panic attacks during the pandemic. I now take medication. Wish I had started much earlier instead of suffering needlessly. Here’s what I’m on: Propranolol (beta blockers) help keep my heart rate low in big presentations. I mostly use these as an occasional preventative measure. Lorazepam (generic Ativan) for panic attacks. I use these rarely but just having one in my pocket calms me down. Xanax is similar but for some reason doesn’t work as well for me. Ecitalopram (generic Lexapro) This is an SSRI anti-depressant / anti-anxiety med. I resisted taking it for years because I was worried it would change my personality or I wouldn’t be creative. Those fears were unfounded. Getting on or off an SSRI can be rough. The effects are not super obvious right away but I’m doing much better now. This is just what works for me. Talk to your Dr. Good luck. It can get better.

Thanks so much for this. In a pinch my “poor man’s Xanax” was Benadryl which I could get in most bodegas at any hour of the day. I would pop one or two before a movie or plane trip.

I’m looking if a certain dentist accepts my dental via EY’s Better You “Find a network provider”. If the dentist doesn’t show up, that that mean the dentist doesn’t take insurance or that insurance doesn’t work with that dentist? Meaning if I wanted to ask if my dental insurance would be accepted, would I first ask the dentist in question or get on a call with my insurance provider?
