No I feel you. I miss the old school days when everything was just on pen and paper.

I’m considering teaching at a traditional private school when I retire in a year or two. I like the tech we have had for years: online attendance and grading, sub portal, access to sped/504 paperwork, but what has become excessive is the expectation to gamify and access all materials via Google Classroom. We have so many subscriptions and not enough time to really use them wisely. Teachers have been working hard to do so, yet students and parents make more excuses than ever as to why there are missing assignments. I try to limit screen time, but it’s rough. There are also expectations to cut back on paper copies.
Tell me about. Last night, I put all my grades in for 3 assignments. I refreshed the page just to find none of the grades had saved and I basically wasted 2 hours of my life.
You need to get some rest before you get burnt out. I find it quite stressing dealing with software and I get more tired than I do when i do physical things. I do feel what you feel.
Yeeessssss. I’m so overwhelmed with all of the programs we are trying to integrate into the classroom as well as all of the online training programs with what feels like thousands of pages and videos within, all for after hours completion of course.
Facts...where's my recess...where's my nap time....think I'm being sarcastic? I'm 100% serious, all this s*%t is draining!!
During my lunch break, I turn off the lights and rest my head on my for about 10 minutes. Love it.
Yes, it's a lot to keep up with. I feel the same way sometimes, and we have a site tech, but they can't keep up with all of the requests for help with technology, so it feels like we're always left to fend for ourselves.
Oh my, I thought I'm the only one going through software fatigue. My eyes are burning and I'm developing constant tension headaches.
YEP! We have a million programs and yet I feel like none of them actually do the things we need them to do? Trying to keep track for myself is confusing enough without factoring in what the kids need as well. It's too much!

Our district usually goes with cheaper, more cumbersome options when purchasing software. I would love to have Gradespeed or Skyward. We have a POS attendance and grading platform that seems to glitch at the most inopportune times. It doesn’t even average correctly. I’ve told kids to do the math and show me if there’s something wrong, so I can override.
Yes we use a different program each period. Helpful as it breaks up boredom and one is so busy, I don’t actually see my students but teach through the computer. I am wondering when real teachers will be replaced by AI? I’ve heard that a local district employs a cyborg but that seems unlikely.
They can require you to use all those platforms? So glad I live in a state and work in a district where those mandates don't exist. Thank God for CTA!
There are single sign ons available where kids can login from a single place.
Logging in isn’t so much of an issue for me or my students. We have single sign ons for a lot of the programs and I save my passwords to my main account. There are still so many steps, layouts, tabs, screens, clicks, and user interfaces to adapt to. When we deal with so many distractions, interruptions, and task switching, our brains lose focus ability and mental fatigue sets in before I finish 2nd hour.
It IS using us; you put it so well. And when the tech is wonky, it is so disruptive to the flow of the lesson.
I use Google Docs, Planbook, Best Rubrics, and very little else. If it’s overwhelming to us, why burden the kids with it? Many of them tell me they are tired of tech and its overuse. I have also found that by them giving me paper copies, I give more feedback and they actually read more of that feedback. It’s a lot faster than grading by computer!
I can't follow through with all these anymore, honestly. I love that technology makes our lives easier sometimes. But recently, I think it has been making mine worse. I need to unplug.
We have a district mandate that explicitly states that the district will have no less than ten new initiatives at any given time. Tough but we’re managing. The union pushed for 15, thinking we could handle but landed on 10. Most of the initiatives are easy and fairly straights forward except the extra community service requirement on off hours.
