I think there will be more of an appreciation for flexibility. But I also think that will be quickly forgotten.
President 1 is spot on.
At the end of the day, the partners set the tone, and there is NO WAY most partners aren’t coming back to the office.
I hope flexibility stays too. The commute is a killer. We shouldn’t need to be in the office every day, more like 1-3 times a week
@Managing Director 1 you got me singing it too 🤣
Yes not being in the office has actually done wonders for my mental health even during a pandemic
Glad to hear this! Me too.
That being said, being in the office is still important. Hoping the new norm is much more flexible

I agree. Depending on the team some are like you while others are not so productive or focused. It’ll be a balancing act and I’m thinking not all managers are willing to put up with extra drama so I’m thinking for my office doubtful about WFH

I would 100% take being immune and going back to the office to sheltering in place for another 6 months.
That said, I hope flexibility stays.

Dread is barely the tip of the iceberg.
Out of office time has been much better for me and my team
Anyone plan on requesting to continue wfh after the pandemic subsides? If so how do you plan on going about the request?
I will say that I’ll prioritize the huge workload and stay home to work vs. waste 3 hrs commuting, specifying I’ll work the 3 hrs and then I’ll hope for a rational and not rigidly obtuse reaction
Most of our job is already digital. Except workshops and small chats... I dont see a reason to continue pushing for office presence. At least not 5 days a week. Also most of my clients learned to let people stay home. Performers performed and underperformers didn't perform anyway
@VP: i hope. I feel this crisis accentuated the gap between perfomers and non performers. I felt we had moments where all the good guys were under water and low performers were almost on holidays.
I miss my team a lot but not enough to go back to seeing them 5 days a week lol i just want to still be able to work from a different state for weeks at a time if i choose like what I’m already doing now
I want to keep my team as remote as possible but the only thing I haven't figured out yet is training new staff. Are you all just doing the one on one training via zoom/go to meeting/other software?
I paired juniors in my team with consultants which seems like a good match. (like they seems to have similar styles or interests) i asked the consultants to follow up and it went well so far (ranging from random coffees between them to some coaching here and there with me popping up to review the outcome of their mini team)
NOTE: yes all done via Microsoft Teams (camera and screen sharing)

Honestly don’t mind waiting until summer/fall to get the vaccine just so I don’t have to commute still
Hybrid is going to be the new norm.
Being in an office location where my whole team is in a different state, WFH has made me feel closer to my team than ever before. Not looking forward to missing the hallway convos and impromptu meetings in the future
I believe we start to find a new balance. Even the concept of new hires will evolve like consulting companies and you don’t need to put “office time” in upfront. Instead we will find unique and new ways to build and foster culture within the agencies. That’s they key element we need to work on developing - not the hours at the desk.
We’re going through this now at my company. Each manager has to determine if their team will be co-located, hub (e.g. in the office for brainstorms and collaboration), or remote.
What scares me is it’s being done by role and team vs. person. It’s not clear yet what happens if your desire doesn’t align with your manager/team’s.
To date they’ve been super understanding. No plans to return until at least summer I think.
Perhaps it will become another perk for the right employee
All our devs work remote and we've been delivering successfully the past 10 months so remote work and flexibility is the way forward
VP1, yes, it really should be. I can see why a new hire would benefit from being in the office initially but an experienced hire who is a pro with Zoom and has autonomy over their work, should have the option to WFH most of the time.
For teams that work together in the same room it can also be helpful to have time in person, but people who do their job at their desks should be able to WFH.
That’s fair. As long as partners are providing adequate feedback.
I would do anything to go back to the old normal

That didn’t really answer my question...you want people back in offices so they are forced to buy lunch again?
B1 I’m having similar thoughts!!
