Anyone else super slow? So far this month, I’ve billed 14 hours. 0.5 today. 😞

Biglaw is that magical place where having work is stressful but somehow not having work is also stressful.

It hurts that this is so true

It seems like most people in the US and Canada are on vacation this week.

like

Yes this week has been slow because people are still out of town or getting back into town. Based on the things that have come in today, next week I will be slammed.

I lateraled to a new firm because I was eager to take on more responsibility that wasn’t available at my prior firm. I was very upfront about this when I interviewed with the new firm and was guaranteed more substantive work. Half a year in, I am getting the same work as the first years as a mid-level. I’ve always been told that I operate above my class year but this has been frustrating and I feel like I’m regressing. Anyone else experience this?

I’m a 5th yr considering lateraling from a V30 to a V100 to increase chances at partnership. The v100 makes a fair amount of partners in my practice and I would assess my chances at making equity partner there to be relatively good for BL. At the V30 equity partnership odds seem much lower, but my reviews have been good. The V30 has >$2mm per year higher PPP, higher chambers ranking and better exit ops generally.

Any advice as to how to decide on the offer? What else should I consider?

Partners/Associates. How does someone balance the fine line between sending follow up networking emails to people who did not respond to the first networking email (sent pre-pandemic)? Having targeted alumni of my schools, I know people are flooded with emails daily (especially partners) and it may have been poor timing as people are busy. I don’t want to become an annoyance, but I do want to try to connect with fellow alums (with hopes of a job at some point (more than 1 year from now)).

If you don’t have 8 hours of billable time a day, do you leave as is or do you fill in the gap with non-billable work? While I am in the office, I don’t always get the billable amount since I don’t have enough work. Seems like a waste of time to enter non-billable time just to fill in the gap but I also don’t want them to think I am not there and slacking off.
