CRO aligns really well with an expansive lab / instrumentation group looking to broaden reach, particularly for NGS, companion Dx, and novel test development.
Also a lot of synergies in their international footprint, and PPD has a lot of inroads with biotech and provider networks from some acquisitions they've made over the past few years... just those assets alone probably save Thermo 1-2B a year from having in house rather than outsourcing (previously to PPD and others)

As someone in the industry... no. Makes a lot of sense. Most people are not aware of just how diversified thermo is.. they are the premium integrated life sciences powerhouse, with really only Danaher as competition
