Anyone else waiting on H1B transfer? How do you deal with the wait? Can’t do my current job anymore!

Connecting from KL to Chicago via Tokyo (Narita), have an overnight layover there. Have an Indian passport (& a US visa), wondering if I can get the famed “Shore Pass” on arrival, any experiences?

Indian on h1b & 140 approved. wife has an h4 EAD (valid for a cpl yrs). If I switch and ask the new firm to redo the 140 , will my wife lose her existing EAD (since she will also have a new h4)?
