Anyone else who feels that they want to step into the more analytical/executive/operational/financial side of business?

I feel that as a corporate lawyer, you’re mostly doing the necessary details to carry out someone else’s decisions (= EG the boring part of business). The most "strategic" advice you give is perhaps advising on a choice between transaction models.

Would only a law degree and big law transactional experience be sufficient to go into more traditional business roles?

I’ve been working for a company for 25yrs, looking for advancement. I’m considered an SME, managing people, Vendors and working on large system conversions. Have provided long term goals. When requesting feedback I’m told I’m on the right path, no suggestions on what to improve. I asked about timelines for advancement and not being given anything concrete. Recently interviewed with another company as a Vendor Mgmt partner. Individual contributor, high visible position with potential. Thoughts?

I work for a multi- stage life care community. I believe my job is important. But my employer doesn't. I want to make more, but there is nowhere to go from this position. The only advantage is that im the only one who understands the Inventory and order system. Im looking for another job but Im not finding much success. What can I do?

Hi everyone, I’m joining the UT Data Analytics Bootcamp because I want to make the transition out of tech sales into data analytics. I’ve enjoyed, learned a lot but the stress has taken a toll on my health health. It’s a 7 month program that starts in December. I’m asking, would any of you who are in this field do the Bootcamp or would it be best to just go back to school for a Bachelor’s degree or a Masters in Data Analytics. How many of you Senior Managers were able to jump from PA directly into a Director of Financial Reporting positions in industry? Just curious. I have my eyes on a position but it is just a manager/senior manager level for now.

I’ve seen some posts about pros and cons of boot camps or learning additional languages but with my current experience, would either of these be a realistic path to get a job? Does anyone know how to successfully transition from academia clinical research into industry clinical operations? I’m currently at a director level of a large research program in academia and oversee operations. Prior to that I was a clinical research coordinator with extensive trial experience from study startup-close out. I’m not sure what level would be a good transition step and open to new roles/opportunities as well.

Hey all - first year associate here… I’ve met my hours requirement for this year (requirement is 1900 and am currently at around 2050 with billable hours - approx. 2160 with non billable admin hours) and I am just tired. Is it okay to just “disappear” during the holidays (thanksgiving week, week of Christmas) and let partners and senior associates know I am not available? At this point I don’t care about making more money - I just want to sleep, read a good trashy book, and cuddle with my dog.

After many years of doing purely corporate law, I recently moved inhouse to do structured finance. Honestly, I am in unknown territories. My boss also not patient about my re-learning process yet they knew from the interview that I know close to nothing about structured finance. I’m interested. How do you do collaborate on documents? For me it was always scribbles on a printed document handed to me to type in by a partner. I still get this. Also get photos of markups. Some have learned track changes. Some put arrows on a PDF redline. I prefer track changes because I don’t have to spend time typing stuff manually into documents. What are others views?

I realized recently that I can turn my “super associate” persona at any time. I had it off during covid when my kids needed me and got a bad review. So now it’s back on. I’m responding to midnight emails (and daytime ones in under 20 minutes) and getting work done the same morning. I’m spending countless hours doing edits over edits. I actually don’t like super associate. Why do people live like this 24/7?!? 🤔
