Anyone else working from home until this blows over? How do you keep from going stir crazy? I thought WFH would be fun until I realized I legit can't go anywhere...

I have meetings via videochat and play with my cat...and annoy my husband once he comes home from The Outside. Maybe he is bringing home coronavirus which defeats the purpose of my working from home. But it is what it is.

I pass the time by buying equities in my PA all day

like

Yup. We were told we had to work from home “until further notice”, could be days weeks or months. Music, walks to get lunch, work in sprints and take frequent breaks to do things around your place. Sometimes the best solutions are thought of while you aren’t staring at the problem

like

Has been the biggest pain being stuck at home in a room all day. I have kept podcasts on to at least listen to some sort of conversation.

On the days I WFH I’ll typically walk to a Starbucks in the morning to grab a coffee and then walk to pick something up for lunch quick. Once my city gets it’s first case I’m going WFH full time for a week or two

like

I've been trying to take advantage of making a full breakfast now that I have the time. Playing music without headphones also has helped. Remember to take breaks or call your family/friends to catch up a bit

like

Only going to get worse, we’ll be wfh for months unless something changes

As someone who barely moves from my sofa on weekends, I thought this would be more fun. But it’s only day 2 and I am losing it. I am just ending up working all day nonstop, which is not good. But Idk wtf I can do to take a break that is not eating or mindless tv. I will end up adopting some new hobby by force of boredom. Or deep cleaning my apartment like 3 times a week.

I like to FaceTime friends so I inject a little bit of socializing into my day

This is so entertaining to a guy that has been around for awhile. The big deal at one point with the workforce was getting to the point where you could wfh. People complained that they couldn’t wfh, argued they would be more productive wfh and would relish the freedom of wfh. Now, because someone has said you have to work from home, people are going “stir crazy”?! It just goes to show you, you can’t satisfy everyone all the time. The good news is that after this everyone will know whether they can wfh and corporations can adjust their workforce, workspace and productivity.

like

I come in every day because I loathe working from home. Fewer people here makes me more productive.

I prefer to be in the office. At home I just eat and stare off into space. I told my boss I’d happily come in if they need someone there.

House chores ( you can get alot done in a day if you break it up) , walking my dog, going down to my apartment gym on my break, music.

So, a new associate recently joined our team. We are still WFH. I’ve tried to be friendly with the associate but somehow not getting traction. Any suggestions? I’m the only one that initiates any kind of interaction online too. What’s the norm here? I would expect an associate to reach out more, but they only reach out to tell me to do work, which is fine too, just used to working with more social associates in the past.

I switched two years ago from regional real estate/energy to a local small, but established residential real estate practice. While I’ve gained so much practical experience and run my own book here, I want to shift to a non-traditional remote role in real estate but keep getting turned down. I have strong credentials but I’m worried this small firm experience is killing my marketability to large companies.

In a world of remote consulting work…. How long can the US maintain its high premium over European and, esp. developing market consulting? Both price tag to clients and significantly higher salaries for the people. I imagine may move faster at Big 4, etc. than MBB, but within MBB the huge cost and salary differentials feel… increasingly hard to maintain (even though I think the differential has actually gotten bigger, not smaller in the last two years). What are peoples opinions on work from home? It seems to be an unpopular opinion but as a junior I despise it. I work 3 feet from my bed, I find the barriers of a phone/email between me and a senior to add a huge amount of stress to my life and I think it’s stunting my career development at my firm because I can’t build relationships as effectively. I’ve never at all had mental health issues before but now am really starting to feel burnt out and anxious most of the time. What do you think?
