Thanks you all I am so appreciative of your help! It is just so frustrating and scary to deal with and try to understand so it’s helpful knowing others have experienced the same. I am definitely going to get my neck/upper back checked out to be completely sure there is nothing herniated and exacerbating the issue!
Honestly anxiety can do crazy things to your body and manifest itself in physical symptoms like that. And those symptoms only gets worse once you fixate on them. Medications affect everyone differently so what was horrible for one person might be a life saver for another. I would get into a routine with a therapist (trust me I know it’s easier said than done) and work with a psychiatrist to find a medication that works for you. I was worried at first and had to try a couple different ones before I landed on the medication I’m taking now, but I literally couldn’t imagine my life without it
Physical anxiety symptoms SUCK. My muscles twitch when I’m super anxious - like an eye twitch only all over. For a while I thought I had MS or some other horrible neuro disease. Not helpful but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone and bodies are totally freaky.
Btw I have group fitness class anxiety, and I don’t get tinnitus there but I get dizzy. You start holding your breath without knowing or having a panic reaction. ...next time you’re starting to get this way, focus on an obsessive thought you have about something random and get lost in it. The dizziness won’t start up until sometimes.
Make sure you're not grinding your teeth or clenching your jaw at night due to anxiety. I know that's what can cause ringing for me but I also know it's easier said than done to quit.
OP, My health anxiety has spiked recently. Normal body sensations get interpreted for being something bad related to health issue and feed the vicious cycle. This is because I was diagnosed with something and I dont fully understand the risks so it's like my mind is creating the symptoms and its causing me physical muscle tightness in my head which happens for me when anxious. also gerl lightheaded.
Some things that help:
Diaphragmatic breathing
Exercise
Meditation
Acceptance - just accept everything and dont fight any of it. Many times it's our avoidance behavior that exacerbates the situation
TIPP therapy- Google it. You can do this by yourself
Since you have gotten yourself checked, stop googling about symptoms etc. Just feeds the anxiety
Gratitude journal
Read about cognitive distortions and which ones are impacting you. Become aware when you are under the influence of one or more
I'm rooting for you! Btw, personally I try to avoid medication.
My bf gets this constantly - he has health anxiety and often thinks he is dying or has a rare disease, especially during times of heightened anxiety. His body create symptoms from the anxiety (blurry vision, seeing stars, overheating, pain, etc). All the things M2 mentioned really helped him, especially some intensive cognitive behavioral therapy with a specialist (he went to a top anxiety center because it was so acute). He’s made a lot of progress managing it over the past year and a half. He also uses the daily calm app to help him with mindfulness, does a lot of exercise, avoids caffeine, and occasionally takes anti-anxiety medication to manage it (very low doses, used to need them every other day but now only needs them once every couple of months). Good luck - it’s really tough but good therapy can help a lot!
Been to internists, cardiologists, etc and all tests come back fine. It’s crippling when we’re traveling constantly and it consumes you not feeling well and wondering what is wrong and as if no one can help you. The doctor wanted me to try lexapro if it is anxiety, but saw so many negative reviews. What to do...
You need to remember that you’ve been to all of those doctors and everything has come back fine. It seems like you’re experiencing health anxiety, which I also have from time to time. Focusing on the symptoms makes it worse and enter into a feedback loop. You should definitely give lexapro a shot if the anxiety is effecting your life. I started lexapro and it worked for me for a while. There’s no shame in needing a little chemical boost!
Hey did you check yourself for vertigo?
Hey get your neck checked. Sometimes a herniated disc will not show pain, but when you get anxiety the muscles in your neck tense up and cut off circulation to your brain somewhat, hence tinnitus and vertigo
The other thing you may want to try is to really focus on learning how to slow your breathing. I’m on an SSRI and I still get dizzy from time to time. I know my body well enough now to know that when I feel like that I am hyperventilating... if you don’t practice it outside the moment it will be really hard to reel it back in, but things like the calm app are great to use daily to learn how to slow down the breath and take long deep breaths that reset the oxygen/co2 balance in the body that causes the dizziness and numbness. (My psych actually prescribed me mediation 2x a day and other than the Prozac has by far been the most effective thing she’s given me)... hang in there
Also make sure you don’t have BPPV. Do the epley maneuver (google it) and you’ll reproduce the vertigo if you have it then that will get rid of it temporarily if not permanently.
