I plan to take 13 days vacation. Do I need to get major approvals at EY? I used to take 10 days vacation earlier and used to work fine.
I am new to fishbowl and recently got an offer from Publicis Sapient for a senior associate. They are offering $136k with unlimited pto benefits. As I am from the industry and haven't heard about this company before, I would like some comments or thoughts about working for this company? How do they invest in their employees (like pay raise, promotions, etc)?
I know with WFH there is really nowhere else to go, but work has been driving me crazy and I haven’t taken any time off since February. Would it be unreasonable of me to ask for a week off in the next few weeks to celebrate my SO’s birthday and to just decompress? For background, I’m part of a very small in-house team which makes it harder for me to not feel guilty for taking time off. I also have been dreading asking my boss this question and feel like if I don’t ask now, it’ll never happen...
Dreading going back to the office tomorrow. The holiday break made me realize it’s not working, been there less than a year. How soon do you fold in the towel? Fake it until the right opportunity?
Is it normal to feel numb around the holidays? I'm tired, dealing with seasonal affective disorder and a really tough caseload right now. Not in the holiday spirit at all and honestly don't even want to be, I just want to spend the weekend resting. Is it bad that I don't care about it at all this year?
I’m casually thinking about looking for a new job. I LOVE where I work. I’m not micromanaged. My boss never questions when I’m not in office(we have remote capabilities). We have a very good working relationship. Never denied vacation time. Full health benefits paid by the company. I get to travel to conferences in Vegas and Atlanta. I currently make 75k in Arkansas. Im fiercely loyal.
Would love some input from attorneys and paralegals in the pros/cons of staying or going.
My school has seen combinations of f2f, hybrid, and remote teaching/learning throughout the first half of the school year. After the MLK holiday, our district is returning to traditional f2f teaching 100%. I have 4 band classes (1 beginning, 2 intermediate, & 1 advanced), and as far as content pacing is concerned, we’re 1 9-week grading period behind. Is it a far fetched goal to get my students where they need to be by the end of the school year? How would you handle a situation like this?
Want to give my two weeks notice because my new job starts two weeks from next Monday but my manager is on PTO today (Friday) and Monday. Didn’t know they would be out for this long since last week — they didn’t communicate. Is it appropriate for me to text them if they’d be free to schedule a meeting today or Monday? Or should I wait till they’re back on Tues? (that makes it less than a 2 week notice tho)
All I want is a job with a casual dress policy, unlimited pto and less than 30 min commute. (I’m in nyc so the commute shouldn’t be too hard) do you think that’s asking for too much?
Do you adjust your lessons for the holiday season or incorporate the seasons into your lessons? I guess this is mostly for elementary and middle school teachers, but any input is appreciated. Starting at a new school and I want to be festive in some way other than decorating my door.
Hello all, we are a 100 ppl cloud company with HQ in the SF Bay Area ( majority of the employees are remote) and we are thinking about improving our time off policy. What does your company’s time off policy look like? We currently offer 10 vacation days and 10 sick days per year for new hires. Not very competitive as you can see ….
Worst part about the holidays is seeing patients who come in alone around the holiday and have no one to visit them 😭. Especially after surgeries to have them wake up and look around and have no one there just breaks my heart. Tips for cheering up lonely patients during Christmas time? Can't do a lot of decoration because it's a fire hazard (or at least that's hospital policy).
Where is a good place in the eastern US to buy a reasonably priced vacation cabin? Preferably somewhere wooded with a great view of the stars, but close enough to civilization and modern enough that there are amenities if needed.
What part of I will be on PTO the week of thanksgiving do you not understand family less, friend less, not thankful client???!!!
Lease ended … job is fully remote. Sold almost everything I own. Living off my bike for the foreseeable future. CO- May … UT/MT- June … vacation in banff July … All over CA from August thru December … maybe AZ for the winter? Hit me up if you want to ride!
I really need leave for two weeks. My project does not have long leave policy but it has strict target policy. The last best leave I took was for 4 days only. I really need a long leave so I can have a vacation atleast once. it's been 3 years I worked in my current project. Never taken a long leave. Plz suggest me good ideas. I'm not sick but getting depressed day by day.
I ran into my ex a couple days ago and it’s just all screwed with my head. We are kinda talking and he invited me to his company holiday party to be his +1.
And then he’s been ignoring me.
Not much happening in here of late, but thought I’d share what I’m doing with a week of US firm holiday. At an American Guild of Organists national convention in Seattle with a ton of really cool pipe organs!
No Tipping All-Inclusive Resorts
Does anyone have any suggestions about places where you can stay without the hassle/expectation to be tipping everyone all the time?
I hate having to give tips for everything when I'm on vacation. I don't want to be carrying cash around. In fact, I don't even want to be thinking about it. I just want to relax!
To be clear, this isn't about the money. It's about the hassle. I'd just rather pay an upfront gratuity fee that covers all of tips for the entire stay.
You may not know what you want for Christmas this year, but your home sure does! Here is a Holiday wishlist we wrote up that will be a treat for your home this year:

I am a terrible wife! It’s my husbands birthday today (39th) and I did not even find time to get him a gift. We came out of state for an extended weekend with my young toddler as a kind of birthday treat, but I realize that I am just not making enough efforts. I just got him a slice of carrot cake and made a super simple breakfast. I had to put this down somewhere! I almost feel like all I am doing is running behind this little energy bunny all day all night. Sorry, vent over.
I got bumped back to platinum elite on both Marriott and SPG.. after being gold for a few months now (have been on a local project for a year now)
How good tcs with onsite opportunities
Anyone else feel the homeless are just out of control here? I live in midtown and they constantly harass my girlfriend and steal packages from my building, for example…and yet they’re just allowed to linger around outside the building
Zoom person 1 on their phone: “Did I miss something? That cut off”
Zoom host: “Someone made a joke and no one laughed. Go on.”
Hi all. How can I drive growth via social media or digitally? My buddy and I have ana online fitness portal. We get good leads from organic content but we want to take it to the next level. Should we experiment with google ads, fb/insta ads? Or are there other areas we can tap into as well
What do you think is a bare minimum CTC required to sustain a good married life considering life in a metro city. I do earn about 15LPA. So how much should. I look for in a guy?
“In this country, we are not ruled by an all-powerful executive with a pen and a phone," Pittman wrote. "Instead, we are ruled by a Constitution that provides for three distinct and independent branches of government."
Being an EM:
Cognizant salary for 20 years in AWS, Terraform
Won’t this just push more foreign / cash buyers to the US market as a result?
WTF is going on with the housing market! I’m tired of being heartbroken! I can’t blame others for being as vigorous but it’s got to stop! Seriously!
Is “Teacher Block” a thing, like “writers block”? I am working summer school for nonverbal kiddos and I swear I’ve never struggled more to think creatively and design fun and engaging activities.
Recommendations for laptop tote? Currently using the Lo & Sons OG but it's starting to feel like I'm carrying a bowling bag.. plus switching projects soon where I won't have to lug around two laptops (yay!) Looking at the T.T. while it's on sale but wondering if there's a bag worth switching brands for. Looking in the <$200 range. Thanks in advance!
What’s a solid range for an EP in NYC at a smaller company? I have 10 years experience they’re looking for someone w 6-8. Thank you!
Additional Posts in New York Big Law
At matrimonial law firm almost 3 years now. My billing rate is currently the same as two NEW hires who are less experienced than me (one who has never worked in matrimonial law). How am I supposed to interpret this? Does it correlate with my work? My pay?
Have an associate 2 years junior to me with whom I work frequently.. they seem to make an intentional point of not responding to my emails (but promptly responds to client, partner, etc), but 75 percent of time will eventually do what I ask. It has become a distraction. Generally I get good upward reviews - I’m respectful of juniors and expect them to have a life, etc. I’m unsure why the passive aggression. Any tips on handling or do I have to just deal with it? I’m worried about a confrontation
Recent lateral to Firm A; 10 days in I got an offer from more desirable Firm B. I rejected it out of loyalty and now hate myself and my decision. What do I need to do to go back to Firm B?
I’ve been in NY biglaw for almost 3 years now. Was given the opportunity to go to a satellite office to help build the practice. I have the option to return in 2 or 3 years if I don’t love it. Would you take it? The pay is a bit more.
I am a first-year in big law who started earlier this year. I am on pace to bill around 140 this month and I feel like I am not doing enough work. I’ve consistently reached out to partners but am not getting staffed on assignments. Today I did barely any work. I keep hearing about how slammed firms have been recently and am nervous that I’m not doing what I’m supposed to be doing. Is this a common enough experience when you first start out? What could I be doing differently to be more visible?
Reposting: anxious q- should incoming juniors start thinking of backup plans? Were offers revoked in 08/09? Or start dates pushed? Would be starting at a V10 in lit if that helps. Thanks all.
I know this question is somewhat vague and broad but I’ll soon be joining a Banking & Finance team (in BigLaw) as a junior associate. I’d be grateful for any tips on how to thrive in this role. What characteristics make a good junior transactional lawyer?
Anyone’s firms trimming costs, e.g. canceling events, stopping people from going to conferences, etc.?
What are partners at firms saying about the latest round of salary increases? (No responses from associates please.) And if partners could share rough PPP of firm that would be helpful. Fully predict some pushback from V25 down depending on profitability.
Best legal recruiter email you’ve received?
Accepted an offer of employment with a mid-sized firm to begin in a couple of months. I’ve always wanted to shoot for big law but haven’t had the opportunity thus far. Overall, I accepted because I didn’t want to take the opportunity for granted in addition to the uncertainty with hiring due to covid. Would it be an issue to shoot for a big law opportunity in the interim? I know how this looks and sounds, so I definitely don’t want to set a precedent that I deal in bad faith.
Thoughts on giving your two + weeks notice after you’ve been told you’re receiving a bonus (and it would actually be paid while you’re still at your current firm just after you’ve told them you’re leaving)? Or does everyone just wait until their bonus actually hits their bank account? Being able to give my two weeks early/mid December would be a lot better for me but don’t want to jeopardize not getting my bonus (which comes usually 3rd week of December).
From Rome to New York.
I work in Kpmg as a legal specialist (before I worked in BigLaw for 1 year) and I have just passed the NY bar exam (plus I have the gc and an LLM). I am sending my resume to big four and big law trying to get a job offer but I just did one interview. Any tip or advice? What are the firms that would find my profile interesting?
For those who are not aiming for partner, do you have a number (savings or NW) at which you’ll jump? Or is it more of a continue until something comes up?
Ideas on where to live for a second-year associate working in Midtown East? My lease is up, and I’m debating on LIC, Downtown Brooklyn, Gramercy Park/Flatiron and Midtown East. Is it worth it living super close by to the office?
