Hello, I have received an offer from Southwest Airlines as a Associate Technology Analyst with their direct college hire program. Will be graduating in May with a degree in MIS and also have internships experience as a Business Systems analyst intern. The salary compensation started off at 66,500 but was looking for the 75k range and they got back to me saying the best they can do is 68,500. They also have a 401k company match up to 9.3%. Do you think this is a solid offer for this job market?

Cairo - JW Marriott is good for family. They have a faux beach and and kids water area. It’s closer to the airport but distance from the touristy activities. However, they do have tours that pick up from the hotel through the hotel and shuttles to the touristy area. I haven’t stayed at the Sheraton but that’s closer to the nile and nightlife of the city as is the Nile Ritz and Cairo Marriott, which are also good options but without the resort feel.
If you are looking for a beach while you are there I’d recommend the Red Sea, sharm el sheik. There is a Marriott resort there too. Cheap flights on egypt air from cairo. Alexandria also has some rich history and is 2-3 hours from cairo.
Also recommend a cruise in the nile form Luxor to Aswan to see all the ancient civilizations and the temple of abu Simbel, but that’s a day trip with flight.
Let me know if you have any other q
Everything is super cheap for tourists right now and in my opinion safe, especially with a tour guide. Id avoid Coptic churchs as they seem to be the target if there is an attack
SC1 - same except I’m first generation!
I was there last December for a few days. Stayed at the Sheraton which overlooks the Nile and you could also see the Pyramids from the club lounge. The hotel is nice overall and is still close to the Museum and other points of visits. The best part of my visit was the Pyramids and trying out falafels at any location I could find. They are smaller in size and came at $0.17 a piece when converted !
Also, I strongly suggest going with a tour company for seeing around within the city and elsewhere. We went with Emo Tours, and while they were not the best I have ever worked with, they are still great within Cairo/Egypt.
Havent been yet but going there this fall! I'm going to piggyback on what ppl suggest here
Where in Egypt? I can help
Egypt? Why?! It's not all that nice since the arab spring. Go to lebanon, they have sky resorts and great night life
Cairo for me!
Cairo probz. Anywhere else I should go ?
Everything Manager 1 said. 😂 You seriously can’t go wrong with any of that advise.... As an Arab immigrant myself, with family in Egypt, I still recommend to any friends/coworkers that visit to get a tour guide wherever they go. I agree that tension has died down, but it’s always the safest bet. Don’t give money to the kids begging on the street (you or your family will want to, trust me, but just avoid it or you make yourself a target, and it perpetuates a horrible situation (the families will sometimes break the kids arms and/or let them heal incorrectly so tourists will take pity and give them money.... it’s very sad)), and don’t be afraid to haggle in the markets. We may pretend to be annoyed/angry, but we love the back and forth. 😉 Being immersed in the culture and history there is an unforgettable, surreal feeling that I hope everyone can experience at least once in their lifetime. Safe Travels and really excited for you!!
any recs on best places to find tour guides?
I’d say the hotel, but I actually did one off trip advisor/ viator which was fine too.
For Cairo, the Marriott in Zamelek is solid and in great neighborhood. Get a private tour guide to drive you around and take you to the pyramids. They’ll help you avoid lines/hagglers and are very affordable by western standards. Nile/Luxor/Aswan Cruise is a good idea to see the river and surrounding areas. Alexandria is ok but not crucial unless you have a lot of time. Same with Sharm el Sheik IMO. Hiking up Mt Sinai is pretty awesome but takes a couple of days because you hike overnight
Sharm-El-Sheikh is good for beach / snorkeling. Giza to see pyramids.
