Anyone ever consider moving to another city for their partner? I’m having such a hard time finding a new job during covid, I’m rethinking it all! Not really but that’s how frustrating it is.

I did. Would do it again. Having a supportive partner is more important to me than a job. If your partner isn’t supportive, then you need a new one regardless.

Yep! My spouse and I have both moved for each other. The first year is hard as you get settled, find new jobs, tribes, etc. But it’s all in your perspective. If you want to be with this person and build a life together, you make it work. Job hunting right now is the pits, but it won’t be like this forever.

Same ^ I moved to another country in 2020. If your partner is your family, then it'll be worth it, however difficult it is.

I moved many times for my husband. It was a sacrifice at the time and hurt my salary. BUT I grew as a person and am super adaptive. I freelanced AND got interesting jobs full time too. Today I wonder does it really matter where you live. I know several people even before COVID who moved to other cities for their spouse but kept their jobs with our agency. Now with WFH; it should be even easier to strike that kind of arrangement and not give up a job that you might like.

I moved to be with my (now) husband, as we were long distance and I had lived in one state the majority of my life. I loved my old city, job, social circle but moving to be with him was such a huge growth period for me and for us. Very happy where I am even if it doesn’t check all my boxes for an ideal place to live.

I've moved 3x for mine and had a little resentment at first. We're finally settled, but while I didn't have trouble finding a job, I definitely had trouble finding the right job and am on my 4th place in 5 years. I'm finally at a place I know I'll be long term and love where we live as well. I realize now I never would've moved anywhere else if it weren't for him and would've had a completely different career path, and ultimately life, had we not moved around.

I moved for two separate partners (once across the ocean and another across the country). Here's what I've learned: You have to be planning for a future when you're in an LDR. And you both have to make those plans. In the first scenario, that ex positioned it as the only choice for us. We never talked through our options or what it would be like for me to be away from friends and family. He assumed he could fill all those holes in my life and I believed him. So I learned the language, took a job I didn't want and resented him so much because it felt like i had to move there in order to feel loved. We broke up as soon as I got there. In the second, my partner had tried living in my city but there were better opportunities for him in CA. We talked through cities we could both eventually live in, and the costs of moving, opportunities for growth for each of us, how often we'd see my family and what role his could play in my life. There's still some resentment and I do really miss my people, but i know my partner wants me to have a full life and that where we are now isn't necessarily where we will end up. We're not married or anything but as long as we're together, I don't want to be anywhere without him.

I was due for a promotion but then covid hit, and during the peak of layoffs/furloughs, I was given the run-around that we have agency wide promotion freezes, etc. Over the past month, a handful of people have been promoted. I know everyone's situation is different but I can't help feeling snubbed. How do I know whether they are genuinely trying to promote me and can't, versus them stringing me along for as long as possible? I dont want it to come to having to bring another offer to the table..

Have an offer in industry. It’s a relatively new company that is growing fast and lots of opportunity to move up quickly and make a difference. Salary increase wouldn’t be large but enough to make a difference. My heart wants to do it but there is risk involved - not as much stability as the Big 4 company I work for and I’m supporting a family. What do I do? Follow my passion or stay in the safe zone given things are still up in the air with Covid? I appreciate your opinion fishes!

I received an offer from Big 4 for an SC3 role. The offer states that I will be eligible for a salary adjustment in Oct 2022. What does this mean? I have enough YOE for a manager, but the team recommends that I come in as SC3 to learn how things are done since I have no prior consulting experience.
