No, but have considered changing my name to avoid discrimination on admissions/job apps.

No! Why?

No! I would correct people. Every. Damn. Time.

I also have a hard-to-pronounce Chinese last name. I even correct people when they mispronounce my very Anglo first name.

If white Americans can pronounce Schwarzenegger and Chalamet, they can learn how not to have a panic attack and the XYZ’s in Chinese last names.

like

nope.

I’ve never considered a last name change for phonetics alone. In my case my last name isn’t spelled following modern pinyin guidelines but I like that it serves as a subtle Taiwanese identifier for people who know. No one pronounces it correctly either way.

I have, on the other hand, considered changing my last name to an Anglicized name to avoid discrimination. I don’t think I would do it though unless it was as a stage name.

I have friends who changed their name from Nguyen to Win and Wang to King in junior year of high school, that way colleges won’t be able to tell their ethnicity and won’t discriminate against them.

Nah. Americans gonna have to deal with my last name.

I know someone who changed from Wang to King. No wrong but...

Considered it when I was young but as I grew older, I found it made me more unique and easily identifiable so I chose to keep it.

PSA: Those names are NOT incorrect. They weren’t meant to be phonetic. They’re following what was the typical transliteration from the original language to English and have a rich etymology.

I work in-house and when I was interviewing I made it very clear that I was moving to in-house to have work life balance. I knew it was still figuring out the organizational part of the team but I thought since I said that was my biggest interest moving to in-house they wouldn’t hire me if it weren’t the case. Well it wasn’t and working has been incredibly tough. I’ve learned fairly early that I am happiest when I get to spend time with family and friends and without that I become depressed.

This will be a slightly weird post.
I recently joined pwc, last month(first company, I'm a fresher). The work life is quite good as of now, I'm getting trained in SAP, got assigned to a project too.
But I'm feeling restless, whenever I am not doing my office works, I'm going through Linkdn; practising sql, dsa. I also spoke with a few guys for possible referrals in future.
I feel like I should chill out for atleast a 2-3 months, but I'm having trouble relaxing my mind.
Any suggestions🥺
