Anyone ever deal with an opposing counsel so obnoxious and tedious that every time you read their correspondence you just want to do a good ol' primal scream?

Constantly! It happened today twice! (2 different OCs!)

Yup. We have one that will always “reply[] to confirm receipt” and get back to us substantively later. 🤬

Quietly and competently prepare your case. Ignore the argumentative and obnoxious lawyers.

My firm requires only 1650 but I still struggle to meet it. This is compounded by the hell of dealing w/clients complaining every month for explanations, credits, etc over legit time on their invoice. OTOH, I know I'm dealing with individuals, not businesses, and most of the time they're financially vulnerable to begin with so I'm sensitive to not overbill, which in my experience produces diminishing returns during the representation. Do I ask for more work or just keep (over)billing?

Does anyone have a good file management system they would be willing to share that keeps track of all of the dates on each file (since family law has so many, at least in Ontario) and notes from conversations with clients/emails, all in one place for ease of reference.

2 days ago i told the resp on the phone i had a divorce petition to mail him and needed his address. He said he would call me back with the address because he was driving, just moved to a new place, and didn't have it memorized. He never gave it to me but i found it anyway and mailed it certified. Today i found out that he cleared out their bank account. Can i do an emergency hearing to get that money back? He does not physically have the petition yet but i definitely told him it was coming.

Then, at year end, 1/3 of every $ over the collection threshold. I’ve never missed a collection goal, but am not gong far over it. What is a fair goal, and a fair %, assuming salary non negotiable?

My client wants both parties to list assets & liabilities as an exhibit to their prenup without values, but waive the right to know the actual valuation of those in the prenup itself. My initial thought is this is a terrible idea & would probably make the prenup easily voidable since a main requirement for a prenup is for both to understand the nature and value of the other’s assets. I will research in my jurisdiction to confirm, but has anyone ever heard of/done this? Thoughts?

Very frustrating that my client’s last shot is discretionary when the trial court ignored my client and the one guaranteed appeal had a panel that couldn’t bother
