Anyone ever do any work on Upwork and if so what was that experience like?

I am currently working as Branch Manager (scale-2 officer) in one of the leading public sector banks and have 5 yr experience in core banking. I am having 2.5 years experience in the IT sector on vision plus as a software engineer (before joining the bank). I have knowledge of core banking as well as good knowledge of banking tools like finacle, caps, imac etc. I want to switch to private financial institutions.
Any suggestions about such institutions and the domain for I can apply

Guys BIG ALERT!! DON'T JOIN MAVERIC SYSTEMS. They are taking exp employee and burn them crazy for 16hours day and both weekends (spl Think Next batch) . They do humiliate employee to insane level and each one are crying a** out. They insult in daily call and corner each one personally. Some employees are threatened to each ask for 1 day sick leave. Employee are forced to work all weekend without compoff. Please don't join guys, my friends are crying 😓

Working on applications for academic positions (tenure-track), and finding it extremely difficult to write a research statement that is not too close to my current research that hiring faculty would think I lack originality, but also not too far-fetched/unrealistic or on topics that I find interesting but has insufficient knowledge/expertise.
