Fellow millennial lawyers: tell me, in general terms, 1 or 2 clients you acquired and how you acquired them. I feel like the suggested strategies for developing business are always the same: network, build your brand (hate this phrase), market yourself on LinkedIn, etc. Does any of this work? Seems to me to that most business development comes from long-standing contacts (e.g. your childhood best friend is now CEO and needs legal services), so I’m curious how other attorneys developed business.
Say you have to travel for work. You’ll get a deferment no problem.
However, I actually got selected once and it was a very interesting experience and I’m glad to have done it
Should be able to request a deferment. I got hit while abroad
how do you even find out about jury duty? do they call you?
snail mail
Or vice versa. Tell work you got jury duty and you won’t have to travel that week. Kinda interesting thing to do actually.
Just got hit by jury duty early this month to go same day as my new assignment start date. I called and explained my business travel plans to Canada. Lady I spoke to was very understanding. She gave me a one time deferral. Same day, I got a deferment form to fill out via email with future dates to pick from and asked to have itinerary attached as proof of travel to be sent to her by email or fax.
